Synopsis: Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.
Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it’s summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.
Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.
Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.
*Mature Content** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.
Review: Ella has been struggling with her emotions ever since her mother’s death. Feeling overwhelmed by it all, she decides that she has to get away. So she moved to Reno, changed her appearance and became someone else – all in the hopes of putting her past behind her. Although friends since childhood, Ella goes away for college without notifying Micha of her whereabouts. He frantically searches for her for months and finally finds her location the same day she is returning home for summer break.
After eight months of living a lie, Ella is not comfortable returning home. Not only did she hurt Micha by going away without a word, but she doesn’t want to confront the feelings she’s always had for him. So she tightens the walls around her and hopes to survive the summer without having Micha see right through her or losing herself in the process.
Ella and Micha’s story was as heart-wrenching as it was beautiful. Jessica Sorensen did a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life. Their emotions, their dialogue and their development throughout the story was what made this an amazing read for me. Ella and Micha’s connection as friends then lovers was believable and I felt like I could relate them enough to fully understand where each was coming from. By no means is this a light read, it has dark edges that take it a step further than a just a teenagers’ love story. The emotions were raw, the chemistry between them was sizzling and the past revealed by both characters heartbreaking.
The Secret of Ella and Micha is the first book of The Secret series and it is a sweet, romantic read that details Ella and Micha’s past and brings to the front their transition from friends to lovers. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, The Forever of Ella and Micha, which it is scheduled to release its ebook edition on May 28th, 2013.
I received this book from Hachett Book Group through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.
