A werewolf who’s hairless in full shift.

A water sprite who can’t hold his shape at the slightest touch of water.

An ash-tree nymph with a black thumb who kills every bit of flora in her vicinity.
That’s Fortunate, Missouri, in a nutshell—the town for abnormal paranormals. Nymph Romy, however, can one-up them all—her particular flaw is killing her. But thanks to a possible love spell, the wolf and the water sprite could be Romy’s key to cheating death. And the three misfits may find that even imperfect creatures can still create a sexy, loving, perfect union.

Inside Scoop: Sol, Romy and Lucien love each other—emotionally, spiritually and physically. Which means both ménage and male/male action. You lucky reader, you.

Mathias was a korrigan, a fairy dwarf, and to his detriment, he’d been born male. An abomination amongst the korrigans, who were always female. Even his own mother had wanted him dead, but you can’t kill an immortal.

When he finally strolled out from behind the counter, his height no more than four feet, he held a red clay pot filled to the brim with a dark, loamy soil. Carefully, he handed it to Romy. “Here.”

She stepped away. “And what the hell am I supposed to do with dirt?” Maybe Mathias was tired of her bringing back dead plant after dead plant. It didn’t matter how much she watered the damn things, fed them, or even talked to them—none survived. She’d stopped giving them names after a while, awash with guilt and shame over each death.

His red eyes sparkled with excitement. “In this soil, there is a very special seed, my girl. Very rare and unique. I’m entrusting you with its care.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me. There is no way in hell I’m taking on a ‘rare and unique’ plant. No. No. No. Give me a hardy shrub or weed. Better yet, maybe a cabbage. I won’t feel so bad about a cabbage when it croaks.”

Romy was a dryad; specifically, an ash tree nymph. Which meant, in theory, plants should flourish around her, but she couldn’t even keep her own tree alive. Her mother had postulated it had something to do with the sperm donor, aka Romy’s biological father, but the elder dryad had refused to say more on the subject. Tree nymphs were traditionally a love-’em-and-leave-’em race of females. They didn’t get involved with beings they considered no more than means to an end. Males born to tree nymphs always developed into the same race as the male halves of the couplings, while the females were always dryads.

Unfortunately, something had gone very wrong in the making of Romy. It hadn’t taken long after the dryad equivalent of puberty set in before her people had decided she was toxic.

She pushed the pot back to Mathias. “Uh-uh. You’ve seen my track record.”

When her “birth defect” had eventually started to affect the trees of her forest six months ago, Romy had been summarily kicked out by the other dryads. Of course, her people had called it a “long, extended respite” and sent her to the town of Fortunate, Missouri.

The moniker, over the years, had become a joke. The town had been named after the Fortunate Isles, also called the Isles of the Blessed, and had been used for more than two hundred years as a dumping ground for the “paranormally challenged”. Those who didn’t fit in with their own kind were sent to Fortunate to finish out their days. For immortals like Mathias, the end of days was a long-ass time.

For Romy, well…without a tree to tend, she wouldn’t live another year, the chlorophyll drying in her veins. The plants were test subjects for her, to see if she could sustain life. So far, they’d served only to help ease the ache of dying. But as far as tending plants and making them flourish, she failed constantly.

For Mathias to trust her with a “special” plant…no way was she taking on that kind of responsibility.

It was one thing to kill a common houseplant, but a whole ’nother thing to be responsible for something “rare and unique”. Was Mathias crazy? Romy shook her head again. “I can’t. Don’t you have an air plant or something? Hell, those suckers don’t even require watering.”

He patted her hands, his fingers soothing and gentle. “Ah, but my dear, I hope this may be the answer to—”

Mathias’ explanation was cut off by a barking baritone. “Ah, shit!”

Romy put the pot on the counter as she scooted around Mathias to see who the unfamiliar voice belonged to.

In the greenhouse area beyond the main shop, two long, well-muscled legs and a firm ass, all packaged in perfectly tight jeans, stood nestled between two rows of plants.

“Hello,” Romy said.

The owner of the legs and ass straightened, making him a foot taller than Romy. And oh goddess, did he have an upper body and face to go with the lower half—thickly muscled chest and broad shoulders crowned by a face with bow lips, a Roman nose and the brightest green eyes. All framed by messy, shiny black hair that fell about his shoulders. It was as if the gods had decided to create perfection.

Ridiculous though—they would never do that. But hot damn, they’d come pretty close.

“Uh, hello yourself,” he said back, dusting his palms against his jeans.

His really low voice, which would have better suited a grizzly bear, sent a humming through Romy that made her body sing.

“What have you done now, Lucien?” Mathias asked when he walked into the back. His presence was enough to break the harmony, and Romy snapped out of her new-guy-induced daze.

“What a great name.” She smiled. It made her feel foolish, but she couldn’t punch down the giddiness.

“It’s a name.” He shrugged then leaned over again, which gave Romy another clear shot of his fabulous ass. When he stood once more, he held a small plant, cradling the roots carefully. He looked at Mathias. “I broke the pot, but the fern is fine.”

Lucien had a slight accent, but Romy couldn’t put her finger on the origin. If possible, it made the young man even more exotic and mysterious.

Mathias shook his head, making his red beard sweep his chest. “Where’s Sol?”

“I’m here!” Sol Winter, who’d been working for Mathias long before Romy had moved to Fortunate, stepped out from behind the last row of plants. He wore a baby-blue polo shirt that matched his light-blue eyes. It also complemented his tan, a deep golden bronze. Natural, according to him. Strange for an elf, but who was Romy to judge? His long blond hair was pulled into a ponytail. He often wore it down and spilling over his shoulders, but generally had it tied back for work.

Sol was taller than Lucien by several inches and a little broader. His smile brightened when he saw Romy. “Hey, you.” His mouth turned down in sympathy. “Kill another one?”

They’d had a strange relationship ever since Romy had arrived in Fortunate, which generally involved spirited banter and sarcasm. Even when the conversation turned a little mean, Romy was still thankful for Sol. He was the closest thing she had to a friend.

“Shut the fuck up.”

“Nice.” He raised a brow. “Bitchy much?”

Even though she was certain Sol was gay, it didn’t stop her from having some wicked fantasies about him. After all, the man was hot-hot and knew how to dress. “Takes one to know one.”

“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the oak this morning.” Sol scooped a handful of topsoil and pitched it at her.

“Oh no you didn’t.” In retaliation, Romy grabbed a nearby hose and squeezed the nozzle trigger, dowsing Sol where he stood.

“Stop!” Lucien yelled.

Too late. At Lucien’s shout, Romy turned, the spray of water slapping across the man’s face—and Lucien instantly melted into a clear puddle on the greenhouse floor.

Mortified, she dropped the hose. “Oh no!” She shook her head and stumbled forward. “What have I done?” Not only was she a plant killer, apparently she was a man killer as well.

Two lips formed in the clear pool. “I’m fine. Really.”

“Get out of my face.” I wanted to spit on her. I knew it would be gross, but I wanted to do that more than anything. Teach her a lesson.

She didn’t move. “Why? Just so you can mess with Blake some more? You know some of us are a little tired of your shit Lena.”

“Back up Harli. I only wanted to talk to Blake. Nothing else.”

She rolled her eyes. “It starts with a conversation. Then it’s always more.”

I swirled the spit in my mouth and swallowed it. She was right. I did want more.

I sat on the sand crying, the black fabric swirling around me like my secrets once had. I thought the truth would set me free, instead it swam around me threatening to drown me with every breath.

“I very desperately want to kiss you.”

My mouth forms into a line. “And that’s bad because…?”

He takes a deep intake of air into his lungs and looks at me. I mean—really looks at me. Deep into my being. “Because I’m afraid if do, I won’t be able to stop.”

I elevate my body and collapse onto his chest. “Then, don’t.” If anything is like his previous kisses, I’m in for a passionate road ahead.

His hand reaches behind my head and I watch in slow motion as his beautiful face moves toward mine. The moment our lips touch, all of my other senses go haywire, feeling everything. Pleasure, need, hunger…want. So much want. I want everything he has to offer. In this moment, I don’t care what the future holds. I don’t care if he finds out about my shattered past and hates it. In this instant, I only care about him and the feelings he’s unleashing in and on my body.

His grip on my hair tightens as the kiss deepens. We moan together, feeling the pleasure poring from our bodies. His lips are sweet at first. Restrained and guarded. Almost as if he’s willing himself to slow down. But, I don’t want him controlled. I want him wild. I want him like the rain pours down. Taking no prisoners. The rain doesn’t care who it drenches; it just comes down, down, down. Soaking you. I want him forceful and firm, taking me how he wants. Just like the rain.

The thought of stopping makes me physically ill. This moment, being with him, in his warm, comforting embrace might be the most beautiful moment of my life. It’s heated and perfect. Stopping isn’t an option.

My hands move down his torso, taut and hard. His muscles move and bend under my touch and I feel myself growing wet as every second passes. The swirl of his tongue sends me high and I bite his bottom lip.

“I don’t think I’ve wanted anything or anyone as much as I want you, my Pretty Girl,” he hums in between kissing up and down my neck. “Nothing is as good as being with you. You have me soaring.”

He doesn’t have much time to say anything else before I’m pulling him up by his shirt, lifting it up and over his head. He grabs at my blouse, unbuttoning every button with detailed precision. When he opens my shirt, he simply stares, eyes electric. He puts his hand in between my breasts and just touches—feels.

“Come to bed with me. As much as I want you. Here. Now, I’ve gotta have you in bed. Slowly.”

I nod my head, unable to form any coherent words. It’s almost as if the hand that’s resting on my chest is somehow digging into my body, willing my heart to beat violently. He’s able to control me.

I wonder if I do the same.

I gently move off of his body and stand, watching him swing his legs off the couch. His body lifts and like a peacock, he looks big and alarming. Proud.

Grabbing my hand, he leads me up the stairs, stopping half way to pin me against the wall to thoroughly kiss me.

Hauling me to his room, he opens the door, turns on a small light on his nightstand and the cool air whooshes against my face. The blindingly white down blanket shines bright, but the dark, patterned pillows offset the brightness of the covers.

“Christ, you’re beautiful.”

Andrew had no intention of ever going back home. But circumstances force him to face his painful past and the friend who betrayed him.

Andrew Finley has no intention of going back to his hometown—ever. After he gets caught hacking the CIA, he builds himself a new life as a computer guy for the very government agency he tried to hack. But over the past few months something has been bothering him, and his boss is acting more paranoid than usual. Every time an operation failed, Andrew collected information that could prove someone was selling secrets and now he’s pretty sure his boss is trying to kill him, so he has no choice but to go back home to buy some time. Going home may be more dangerous than facing his boss, though, considering his former best friend and first crush Teddy had betrayed him and let his evil sister and her minions send him running nine years ago.

But he’s back now and not everything is as clear-cut as he thought. Teddy may not be a Judas but can Andrew catch his fireman without getting burned, or is coming home going to kill him?

One corrupt boss, one evil sister, enough family drama to fill a dozen daytime chat shows and an ex-best friend who he’s been in love with for half his life makes for one hell an interesting trip home.

Excerpt

“So are you going to talk, Drew, or do we have to break out the big guns?” Genie asked.

One of his sisters grabbed his foot while the other removed his shoes and socks.

They wouldn’t. Would they?

Sara ran her fingertip down the sole of his foot and gave him his answer.

Andrew bucked and tried to throw his siblings off so he could get away. In the last few years, his sisters must have been working out, because they stuck fast to his back and never released their holds on his feet.

This was cruel and unusual punishment.

But effective. The CIA could learn something from them.

In under two minutes, Genie and Sara had him crying and begging to be let go.

“No! Get off me. For the love of God, please stop!” Out of breath, he ached all over from the unprovoked tickle attack as he crawled off the couch when they finally released him.

Andrew lay on the carpet as his nerves recovered from the assault. This was not how he saw his night going. He’d figured for some food, gossip and light-hearted teasing before collapsing into a food coma until morning.

Never in his life did he remember being so happy, sore and worried all at the same time. Andrew snorted. Okay, maybe he could think of a few occasions that description hit the mark.

Not one of those had involved women, though—and definitely not his sisters. An involuntary shudder zipped through him at the mere thought of girl parts.

“I give. I give.” He panted, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to lift his arms to ward off another attack.

Though they’d released him, he had no doubt they’d jump on him with no warning if they thought he was being untruthful. His sisters could be paid well as interrogators for the CIA. Perhaps he should put in a good word for them.

A thump on either side of him on the floor startled him into opening his eyes. Sara sat on his left and Genie to his right. The carpet was comfy and Andrew did not intend to move yet.

Evidently, his sisters didn’t mind lying on the floor, either, as they waited patiently. All three of his sisters, including the Evil One, had long blonde hair, straight and silky. They were also all blue-eyed, tall and athletic.

He was quite the anomaly. He was fairly short and thin with green eyes and curly chestnut hair that grew in ringlets if he let it get too long.

A poke to his side reminded him he was supposed to be talking. Taking a deep breath, he started at the beginning.

Excerpt

At six ten, I’m perched in the window as if my favorite movie is about to start. In some ways, it is. The short film of my little duck and his prick on their evening stroll to utopia. Or what I would imagine the world to be like with a guy like that.

For the first time ever, the prick is staring hard when he approaches my window. I force my hands to flatten on the counter from the fists they naturally curl into when I see him. He’s daring me to say something but I know the game. I’m not going to break first. They stop but my ducky doesn’t look up. He’s staring at the ground a few feet in front of me.

When I look back at the prick, he’s got an evil snarl on his face. “Tell him.” He smacks the kid on the arm hard enough that he stumbles but quickly recovers. Without meeting my eyes, he looks toward me and says, “We’re not interested.” The black eye he’s sporting is enough to make me see red.

If the fucking window was bigger, I’d dive through it and beat the fuck out of the prick but my shoulders are blocked when I get right in his face and say, “I see a mark on him again and I’ll be paying you a visit.”

The kid looks up at me in shock, terrified by my action and my words. I want to drag him away and keep him safe but I can’t. I don’t even know his name.

“You let me know if he lays a hand on you again,” I say directly to my little duck as the prick drags him away.

FUCK!

I’ll probably never see the kid again because I couldn’t follow my own fucking rules.

As if starting a new job, picking up the reins of a disorganized former colleague, and moving back in with his parents while he saves for a down payment on a house of his own isn’t enough, Cecil Trace has just discovered that part of the Art Director’s job at the exclusive Linwood Academy is putting on a series of holiday pageants…with the first one celebrating Thanksgiving just three short weeks away.

He’s got enough on his hands getting reluctant students ready to wow their parents and the community with their brilliance, and preparing a holiday showing of his own artwork at a local gallery, he doesn’t need recalcitrant but brilliant math instructor Reese Cavelli arguing about every little detail.

While Reese understands the new Art Director’s urgency, he can’t allow Cecil to undermine his authority with the students. Reese can’t help being an ass to the new art director, and he knows in part his behavior is due to his own insecurities, but it’s also got a lot to do with the fact that the vibrant young artist is so damned sexy in his jeans and bohemian shirts. Every time he comes into contact with Cecil Trace, he finds himself tongue-tied and brusque, unable to think of anything to say that doesn’t come out wrong.

The store doors whooshed open and a wave of cold air enticed him inside. The silver gum wrapper nagged at the back of his mind, but he was determined. No more picking up after other people. Not after coming in early and staying late and spending all his planning periods cleaning up Torey Crowe’s disaster of a classroom over the last week.

Pulling out his smartphone, he called up a list of items he needed and swung a cart out of the corral. He knew the store like the back of his hand, but it seemed unusually crowded this Sunday. Ducking into an aisle to detour around a woman who appeared to have at least six two-year-olds in her charge, he nearly collided with another cart. Cursing, he veered to the left quickly. Too quickly as he wound up hitting a hanging display of sandwich containers in gaudy plastic colors.

“Fuck!” Instantly, he backed up a little and bent to retrieve the objects that had fallen from the display. Something rammed into his backside and sent him sprawling forward onto the dirty linoleum. “Fuck!” he snarled, catching himself with his hands and pushing upright.

“Oh, excuse me.”

The pleasant baritone irritated him even more, because it seemed familiar. Spinning about, he found himself face-to-face with the devil himself. Or temptation. The man who’d hit him with the shopping cart was stooping to pick up the sandwich containers, and Reese didn’t have a very clear view of him, but what he saw was enough to make his cheeks burn even brighter and his heart falter just a bit before racing.

Golden hair, in a long, straight sheet fell forward over his face, long…too long for a man, really. Reese tried to sneer, but his fingers twitched again, and he wanted to reach out and push that hair back behind the man’s ear to see what sort of face it hid. He had an impression of slenderness, caught a glimpse of faded denim, and a shirt that looked a hell of a lot like his sister’s baby doll pajamas before his cock swelled. Embarrassed, he jerked his own cart and trotted down the aisle. “Watch where you’re going!” he choked out, racing for the produce department.

About the Author

Somewhere in a small town in up-state New York are a librarian and a second grade teacher to whom I owe my life. That might be a touch dramatic, but it’s nevertheless one hundred percent true.

Because they taught me the joy of reading, of escaping into worlds crafted of words.

Have you ever been nine years old and sure of nothing so much as that you don’t belong? Looked at the world from behind glasses, and wondered why you don’t fit?

Someone hands you a book, and then you turn the page and see… There you are, running from Injun Joe in a dark graveyard; there you are fencing with Athos; there you are…beneath the deep blue sea- marveling at exotic creatures with Captain Nemo.

I found myself between the pages of books, and that is why I write now. It’s why I taught English and literature for so many years, and it’s why my house contains more pounds of books than furniture.

If I’d had my way, I’d have been a fencer…or a starship captain, or a lawyer, or a detective solving crimes. But instead, I am a writer, and I’ve come to realize that’s the best thing in the world to be, because as a writer, I can be all those things and more.

If I hadn’t learned to value the stories between the pages, who knows what would have happened? Certainly not college…teaching…or writing.

‘My inspiration for Retrace

“I can’t put my finger on anything specific that inspired me to write RETRACE. It was more a blend of many things that eventually grew into a story about letting go and learning to love and accept. Some of the key elements that did inspire me though, were a few crazy, vivid dreams that eventually turned into scenes, music, a lot of music, and mainly the characters themselves. Reeves and Nia practically seized my mind to the point I couldn’t concentrate on anything else and just had to pour their story out of me. The book traces their hesitant journey into deep friendship that helps them cope with traumatic pasts, and gradually leads them to discover the path to heal and accept. As Nia and Reeves’ characters developed into people I believed my readers would feel strongly about, and connect with, in tandem the story took shape into an emotional ride with touches of angst, humor, suspense and a whole lot of steam…”

About the Author

4 stars

3.75 stars

Nia moves to the US for a fresh start and as soon as she starts to relax into her hotel room she comes face to face with a handsome stranger. Surprised, mortified and a little turned on, Mia one can’t seem to forget Reeves.

Reeves doesn’t do relationships and is currently at a crossroad in his life. An ex-military man who has worked as an agent and has seen his share of unforgettable things, he lives a life packed-full of guilt. However, that doesn’t stop him from fantasizing about the woman in the hotel room.

Lucky for them that they end up as neighbors, coming together in a ‘friends with benefits’ arrangement that soon leads them to some mighty emotions.

What I liked the most about this story was the way the author went about establishing and growing the connection between Mia and Reeves. Although there were a lot of dark emotions thrown into the mix, there were also many light moments that helped strengthened their initial connection. I enjoyed their flirty banter, their easy camaraderie and their bickering. Their honest interactions added depth and emotion to their already steady connection too, which I loved.

It helped that they had great chemistry too. The intensity of that chemistry was easily palpable and continued to grow with each and every encounter. Be it an exchange of looks, a touch or a whisper–the sexual tension between these two always ran under the surface.

My only complaint and it’s not a huge one would be that Mia’s traumatic past was a bit blown out of proportion. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it was traumatic and painful, but I didn’t understand what it had to do with her allowing love into her life, especially since Reeves seemed like the ideal man for her. He was caring, protective and loving. Even at times when he doubted he could ever be more for her, he was always there for her.

Having said that, I do think that the writing was superb, the chemistry and the connection between the characters fully explored and the dialogue interesting and entertaining. All in all, a sweet yet hot little read. I wouldn’t mind reading more about these two.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

She’ll teach him the art of seduction one play at a time…

Publicist Aubrey Cooper never should have crossed the line. After all, pro football player Flynn Foley is her client. But something about this mouth-wateringly-hot, clean-cut athlete makes Aubrey imagine all kinds of X-rated fantasies. And it only takes one game-changing play―and one night―to turn the tables from strictly business to very, very personal…

Flynn has maintained a no-sexy-distractions policy for his entire pro career. Aubrey is exactly the kind of distraction he was trying to avoid, and she’s the one he can’t resist. When the media catches wind of their naughty little liaison, however, Aubrey’s boss steps in to make them an official couple. What Flynn doesn’t know is that Aubrey is forced to fake the relationship―or lose her job. Now Aubrey must hide the truth…even as she begins to fall for Flynn.

Aubrey cracked open her eyes, studying him like he’d lost his mind. Which he sort of had—over her. He kissed her again before she could say a word, losing himself in her sweet lips, the soft little moans sounding low in her throat.

He liked sex. And he liked the woman in his arms plenty. So much, that he’d kept her at arm’s length for months for fear of falling hard for her and ruining his concentration. Besides, he wasn’t much of a rule breaker, damn it. If it was against company policy to date a fellow employee, then he wasn’t going to do it.

But screw it. He felt as if everything was uncertain right now, up in the air, unconfirmed. Walsh wasn’t talking—at least he wasn’t talking enough. The conversation they’d had before Aubrey had interrupted them had been full of nothing but a bunch of crap. Coach had acted downright evasive.

The vibe he was getting from his coach? He didn’t like it. At all.

He was tired of worrying about things that were out of his control. What was the big deal if he kissed Aubrey anyway? Maybe he could work her out of his system. Maybe kissing her wouldn’t be all that special and he could walk away from this.

Ha. Tell that to his overheated, turned-inside-out body. Flynn broke away from Aubrey’s lips to catch some air, though really, he wanted to look at her, memorize this moment when he’d first kissed Aubrey. Even in the dim light, he could see her lips were swollen, her cheeks flushed. She opened her eyes, the dazed look in them sending an arrow of arousal shooting straight through him, making his cock twitch. Pride suffused him. He put that look on her face.

“Flynn.” She pursed her lips, exhaling softly, the sound shaky. “What in the world was that?”

He smiled. She was a bundle of nerves, his publicist.  Always running around, a little manic, a lot frantic, riding his ass to do this, do that. She’d been harder on Hamilton, but that crazy guy needed someone to rein him in most of the time.

“I thought it was a kiss? Unless I’m doing it wrong…” A chuckle escaped him, and he hoped she was in on the joke.

“No. You were definitely not doing it wrong.” She blew out a trembling breath, her gaze cautious. “I just want to make sure we’re both on the same page.”

“Well, I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page.” Leaning in, he nuzzled her cheek with his, kissing a soft path along her fragrant skin until his mouth was on hers once more. “A shame you didn’t recognize it.”

She smiled against his lips, her fingers tightening in his hair. “I just thought…”

“Thinking gets you nowhere,” he whispered just before he took the kiss deeper, his tongue thrusting, his mouth devouring. She was a thinker, which meant she set her brain to smoking more often than not. And he wanted her feeling, not thinking or worrying.

He gripped her hips with both hands and pulled her in, wanting her as close as he could get her. This…thing between them had been brewing for a while, torturing him. She’d been by his side almost constantly the past few months, guiding his career, carefully preserving his image.

Every time he was with her, the scent of her hair drove him wild. The way he caught her looking at him, her gaze hungry, her lips damp, echoed an answering call deep within him.

Review

5-stars

What I’ve come to admire about Jessica Scott’s writing is the ‘realness’ of her stories. Each man and woman who star in one of her stories carries much more on their shoulders than any civilian would, but the author brings this to the page in a way that readers–especially those who have not experienced the same situations as those of the main characters–become emotionally invested in these characters’ stories.

This is the case in All I Want for Christmas is You too. At a 100+ pages of content Jessica Scott brings to the page a second chance story where a woman comes back from the war affected, confused and unable to cope.

I loved Patrick. He was loyal, loving and supportive. Due to his own experience after his deployments, he was able to relate to some of the issues Sam struggled with. His commitment to his family shined through as did his humor and caring personality. Sam was a great characters also. I couldn’t help but to want to comfort her. She felt so deeply and was so torn as to how to proceed in her healing that she did the only thing she thought was right. Thankfully, her daughter took the initiative and called Patrick for help and what ensued was a sweet, lovely story packed-full of emotions.

For me, as a reader of some of the other books in the series, it was a treat to see the same quality of writing, character development and range in emotions as with the other books I had read. And the fact that it was Sam’s issues that drove the story made it even more especial. I’m a sucker for holiday stories, so that was another plus for me as a reader. 😉

Keep in mind that although this novella is part of the Coming Home series, it can certainly be read as a stand alone. However, I do recommend that you read some of the other books in the series. I’ve read some and loved each one of them.

All in all, a fantastic holiday read!

*I received a copy of this book in exchange of my honest opinion.

Excerpt

It was not a gentle kiss. It was not tame or timid or questioning.

It burned her down to the root of Sam’s soul. It touched something deep and dark and hidden.

Something she’d thought was long since dead and buried and gone.

Patrick’s tongue slid against hers, stroking to life the very sensations she thought she’d never feel again.

It was electric, the feel of his mouth against hers. The scrape of stubble against her chin, the taste of him. The smell of his skin.

He nipped her. Pinched her bottom lip between his teeth and sucked it. And she sighed at the pleasure, at the raw ache his taste and touch aroused in her, pushing aside the darkness that haunted her.

Sam felt him. Felt everything. The heat of his skin. The warmth that drew her closer. That made her want to crawl into his lap and unzip his pants and push up that damned flannel shirt until they were skin to skin and there was nothing between them but sweat and heat.

One hand slid down her side. Tugged at her fleece and…

“Dear lord how many layers of clothing do you have on under this thing,” he muttered against her lips.

She smiled. “You weren’t wondering why I wasn’t cold?”

“Well you’d be a champ at strip poker right about now,” he murmured.

Then his fingers found her skin and she was no longer thinking.
