Eighteen months ago, drummer Jude Colburn made the biggest mistake of his life when he walked away from his band just as they were on the brink of success. Now, he’s got a second chance. The band’s bassist just quit, and Jude plays bass almost as well as he plays drums. The other band members aren’t thrilled, but they are desperate.

Running with Scissors needs him, but there’s one condition: no hooking up with bandmates. That’s what ruined things eighteen months ago, after all. Jude’s on board, but no one warned him about the drummer who replaced him. A.J. Palmer is shy and unassuming… until he hits the stage. He gets Jude’s attention from the first beat, and suddenly that “no hookups” rule isn’t so easy to follow.

Keeping secrets on a tour bus isn’t easy either, and it’s only a matter of time before the band catches on. When everything hits the fan, Jude has to choose: a second chance at the career he’s always regretted leaving, or a shot at the man of his dreams?

Review

As a fan on L.A. Witt’s work I could not pass up the chance to read this title. Hello!!! Rock stars! It’s no secret I’ve enjoyed my fair share of rock star romances and I’m glad to say that this one didn’t disappoint either.

What I enjoyed most about this story was the connection between Jude and AJ. Of course, they had great chemistry–the kind that was always present in their every interaction. But for me it was their connection that stood out the most and made this whole story (and band drama!!!) worthwhile. In this regard, LA Witt didn’t miss a beat. From the very beginning, she made sure to establish that connection. Quiet conversations here and there, heated looks, time spend away from the band–every one of these help to further strengthen that connection until I found myself cheering them on and yelling at them to get their sh*t together!

I liked Jude. I admired his love for the band and the band members even if did commit the same mistake twice. He was caring and loyal and a complete mess when it came to the feelings AJ arose in him. I enjoyed him with AJ, who treated him kindly and with respect. AJ was a great character too. He was shy and kept mostly to himself yet he was strong-willed and sure of his feelings for Jude. I think they complemented each other fairly well and I would have loved to see more of them as a couple.

Although this story is tamer than what I’ve come to expect from this author, I think it worked for these characters and their situation. The sexual tension and the longing between these two were a palpable presence throughout which I think enhanced this element of the story, making those times they were together that much more enticing.

All in all, a very enjoyable read.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

About the Author

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut . . .

Broken Play (Birmingham Rebels # 1)

An Erotic Romance
From Loveswept

add-to-goodreads-button31

Perfect for fans of Shayla Black and Lexi Blake, the deeply sensual new Birmingham Rebels series introduces an unforgettable team of chiseled football gods—and the daring, provocative games they play behind closed doors.

Birmingham Rebels offensive linemen Beau Perez and Cass Zielinski are inseparable, on and off the field. Cass, the captain with the cowboy swagger, is a loose cannon. Beau, the veteran tight end, is cool under pressure. And ever since they were caught on tape in a steamy threesome, their exploits have fueled more than a few tabloid headlines—and naughty fantasies.

Marian Treadwell knows all about the video. And now that she’s the Rebels’ new assistant offensive coach, she can’t look at Beau and Cass without picturing their hard, naked bodies—with her pressed in between. Marian would like nothing more than to indulge those impulses, but she knows better than to get too close to her players, a bunch of adrenaline-fueled alpha males who don’t always follow the rules.

Just the thought of sharing the gorgeous yet guarded Marian drives Cass wild. At first, Beau isn’t sure she’s right for them . . . and lately, all he desires is a little alone time with Cass to explore their new intimacy. But it’s only a matter of time before Cass breaks through both of their defenses. Because when seduction is the game plan, he always plays to win.

Broken Play is intended for mature audiences.

“Get. In. Here.” Marian spoke in that one-word-sentence staccato that had become so popular on television and that she’d sworn she’d never imitate. Now she knew it wasn’t a choice. She was simply so mad she couldn’t get more than one word out at a time. Beau didn’t argue. He simply slid sideways in through her office door, past where she stood holding it. She started to close it, but a hand grabbed it from the hallway and pushed it open again. Cass. Of course. “Can’t I even yell at him without your presence?” she asked coldly.

“Nope. Team captain. Got to be here.” Cass turned and closed the door behind him, then leaned against it, his arms crossed, that damn cowboy hat in one hand.

“Fine,” Marian said. “Since you piss me off, too, you can share the punishment.”

“I don’t take punishment,” Cass said, his usual charming smile gone as he gave her a heated stare that made sweat pop out along her spine. “I give it.”

It took Marian a moment to get past the images that flashed through her head at that outrageous claim. “On the field, not in my office,” she said a little unsteadily.

“Anywhere I choose,” Cass told her calmly.

“Maybe I should go,” Beau said from behind her.

Marian jumped and spun around to face him. She hadn’t been paying attention. She couldn’t believe she’d let him flank her like that.

“Settle,” Cass said quietly but firmly. “There’s no threat here.”

“You just made threats,” she countered, backing up until her back hit the wall a few feet off to Cass’s left.

“No,” he said, the charm back in his voice, a sexy little drawl making it sound like Naw. “Those were promises.”

She actually felt a bead of sweat slip down her cleavage, and she shivered.

“Stop it,” Beau said. “You’re scaring her.” She glanced at him and he looked a little sad, his eyes big and golden brown, and soft with some emotion she couldn’t name. Instinctively she knew he wasn’t the threat here, which threw her into confusion. Wasn’t he the one in charge?

“I’m not scared,” she said. It was a knee-jerk reaction, something she’d said so often in the past few years—to others and to herself—that it was second nature.

Cass sort of rolled himself along the wall toward her until he was leaning over her, not quite pressed against her, his hands on either side of her head, one still holding his hat. “Good,” he said, his voice rough and heavy with wanting. “I don’t want you scared.”

She was breathing too fast. “Move your arms,” she said, and she winced at the panic in her voice.

“Cass,” Beau said. She saw his hand on Cass’s shoulder and her heart nearly beat out of her chest. She had to put her hand up to her chest and press against it to make sure it didn’t.

“You know I’d never hurt you,” Cass said softly. He turned and tossed his hat onto the couch, against the opposite wall. Then he dropped both arms to his sides. He didn’t move back, though. He stayed close enough that she could feel his heat and smell his cologne and a hint of his sweat and deodorant and laundry detergent and shampoo, all the things that combined to be Cass’s scent. She hadn’t realized she knew his smell so well. It was an odd thought and made her frown at him. He frowned back. “Don’t you?” he asked.

It took a moment to remember what he’d said. “Yes.” She did know it. But that didn’t make her heart slow down, because she wasn’t afraid of him. She was afraid of herself, and what she’d let him do if she let go.

“Yell at me.” Beau’s soft words were lost in Cass’s gaze for a second and then they sank in.

“I should,” she said, standing straighter and tugging on the hem of her shirt nervously. “What in the hell do you think you were doing out there?” She pushed on Cass’s chest, but he wouldn’t budge, so she stood on tiptoe and glared at Beau over his shoulder.

“Speaking my mind,” Beau said. He walked over and dropped down on the couch, easily within her sight, making sure not to crush Cass’s hat. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to do that.”

“So you decide to do it on my watch?” Marian said in a strangled voice. “Gee, thanks.”

“On your watch?” Beau asked, obviously getting angry. “Now you’re my babysitter, too? Jesus, how many do I need?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Cass said, turning to glare at Beau, hands on his hips.

“Don’t try to distract me with a lovers’ quarrel,” Marian warned them. “I’m still pissed about Beau’s big mouth.”

Cass slowly swung his head back around and pinned her to the wall with his stare. He had the bluest eyes, and they could go cold and hard as fast as they could turn hot and heavy-lidded. “Lovers’ quarrel?” he asked quietly. Too quietly. Marian tried to slide sideways along the wall, out of his reach.

“That’s right,” she said, full of false bravado. She thought for a second that this must be what the canary felt like before the cat pounced.

Suddenly Beau laughed loudly, a harsh bark that sounded more incredulous than amused. It broke Cass’s stare and Marian quickly moved over to lean against her desk, facing them on more solid ground. “What’s so funny?”

“We”—he gestured between him and Cass—“are not lovers. We’re friends and we fuck women together. That’s it.” He didn’t sound happy about it. Or was he unhappy that people thought they were?

“Beau.” This time it was Cass trying to yank on the leash with a warning in his voice.

“Forget it,” Beau said flatly. “I’ve come out of my shell today. I’m not crawling back in.”

The Story Behind the Cover

IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK.  That is my new mantra.  IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK!

I discovered Cory Zwierzynski when I saw gifs of his Andrew Christian “Kiss” video on Tumblr…

Cory Z 2
Cory Z 1

(Do yourself a favor and watch the whole video, so HOT!  http://www.andrewchristian.com/index.php/kiss.html )

Once I tracked down who the sexy man with the smirk was, I searched out everything I could find about him, and learned that he’s an Andrew Christian exclusive model.  I watched all of his Andrew Christian videos and drooled over all of his pics.  I followed him on every social media known to man.

Cory Z 3

(Follow him on Instagram, it’s worth it!  https://instagram.com/coryz07/ )

When I began writing Signs of Life, the physical description of my character, Kai, started to become Cory in my head.  The eyes, the hair, the tattoo, the attitude…Cory was Kai.  So when it came time for the cover art, I couldn’t stop thinking, what if?  What if I could get Cory for my cover?

Nah, that will never happen.  Andrew Christian will laugh you out of town.

I told myself that over and over, talking myself out of it, until I brought up the idea to my friend Kenya one day.  She told me, “What do you have to lose?  The worst that could happen is they would say ‘no’ or totally ignore you.  So what?  At least you’d know.”

So I screwed up my courage, emailed Drew LaQuang, Cory’s booking person, and asked if I could license a picture of Cory for the cover of my book, explaining that I was a huge fan of his.  Within a few hours I had my answer:  “Sure!”

Cue intense fangirling and celebration!  (My friend Monica heard me screaming all the way from Brazil and messaged me to ask what was going on, LOL).

I contacted Paul Richmond, the art director at Dreamspinner, and asked about the steps I’d need to follow for licensing a picture.  He was extremely helpful, sent over the legal forms I had to have, and made sure I was aware of the size requirements, pixels, etc., for cover art.

Unfortunately all the pictures I found on the Andrew Christian website were too low-res to be used, so I emailed Drew and asked if they had higher-resolution pics I could look at.  He immediately and graciously opened their photo archives to me, and I was able to browse at my leisure.

When I found one that I liked and that my cover artist, Natasha Snow, could work with, I filled out the licensing form and emailed it to Drew, who had it back to me in a few hours.  I forwarded it to Paul and boom, I had my cover model.  I had my actual face cast for Kai on my cover!

Excerpt

Jeremy almost flinched as the man’s eyes met his but somehow he managed not to. There was something vaguely familiar about him, which was why Jeremy had been watching him in the first place, but he was positive they’d never met. This man was unforgettable. When Jeremy had first walked into the club, so noisy and crowded, he’d almost turned around and left. It was a mad impulse that led him here in the first place, and it had been so long since Jeremy was impulsive that he felt shaken and out of his depth. That fact alone had stiffened his resolve to stay for at least a little while; then he’d gotten a glimpse of the beautiful, exotic man, and nothing could have convinced him to leave.

The first thing that struck Jeremy was how confident he seemed, how he held himself. Here was a man who knew who he was and was comfortable in his own skin. He was simply dressed in a tight black graphic T-shirt and jeans, but when he’d stood up from his stool to dig his wallet out of his back pocket to pay for his drink, Jeremy’s mouth watered as the jeans slid down to ride low on the man’s hips, showing a slice of muscled belly.

His shoulders were broad, his torso slim and compact yet rippling with muscle under the tight shirt. Long, lean legs were showcased by the soft, worn jeans, black boots completing the look. As Jeremy stood at the edges of the sheltering crowd and stared, he noticed the leather bracelets and silver rings the man sported on his wrists and hands, his eyes following the corded forearms up to a tattoo that was just visible on his right bicep, the lower edge of it peeking out of the sleeve of the shirt.

Jeremy edged closer, lust surging through him, his eyes drinking in thick black hair, carelessly styled, and a nose that had been broken before but did nothing to detract from the man’s startling good looks. As he tilted his head back to take a long swallow of his beer, Jeremy’s mouth watered at the arch of his throat, the muscles working as he swallowed, a pair of sinful lips wrapped around the tip of the bottle like Jeremy suddenly wanted them wrapped around the tip of his cock, drinking him down as Jeremy emptied his balls against the back of his throat….

Then the man’s eyes met his, the predatory heat in them making Jeremy’s knees weak. As the man licked his lips, Jeremy noticed with a jolt he was sporting a hoop through the lower one, emphasizing the plump fullness of it, and the simmering lust ramped up into raging hunger. Helplessly Jeremy moved closer, the man holding his gaze, the eyeliner he had lightly applied around his amazing golden eyes making him look even more exotic, dangerous.

Jeremy got as close as he could, the people massed around the bar making it difficult to get next to his target. The man looked Jeremy up and down leisurely, all the way to his feet and back up to his flushed and burning face; then he slowly spread his knees wide, making room for Jeremy between them. Jeremy moved in, feeling like he was strangling, his chest tight, the need to touch, kiss, lick and bite overwhelming him.

“Hey,” the man said, his voice deep and husky, lightly accented.

Jeremy swallowed, then nodded, all of his senses focused on the heat of the man’s body close to his, the way his legs looked splayed around Jeremy’s hips.

“Are you here with anyone?” he asked, annoyed at how abrupt his voice sounded. He wasn’t used to making small talk anymore, wasn’t used to the mating dance between strangers. It had been so easy with Brent: a backyard barbeque with friends, an introduction, mutual attraction and easy conversation leading to an invitation to dinner. They hadn’t spent more than a day or two apart after that.

The thought of Brent was like ice water on his ardor, and he could feel himself shutting down, wondering what the hell he was doing. Just as he was about to take a step back and leave, he felt the man settle his warm hands on his hips, stroking the skin between his shirt and the waistband of his jeans with a rough thumb.

“Just a friend,” the man said softly. Jeremy struggled to focus, remembering he’d just asked if he was here with anyone. The thumb caressing Jeremy’s sensitive skin was rough, callused, and it felt so good. It had been so long since he’d been touched….

Jeremy took a deep breath. He could do this… he wanted to do this. It was just fucking, just mutual pleasure with a willing stranger, a stranger he would never lay eyes on again. Purging his thoughts of anything except need, lust, he laid his hands high on the man’s splayed thighs, drawing circles with this thumbs along the inner seam of his jeans, flirting with his crotch but not quite touching.

“I want to fuck you,” Jeremy blurted, hating himself for his ineptness, his cheeks flushing hotter as the man’s amazing eyes filled with amusement.

“Yeah, I got that, amigo,” he said, tightening his grip on Jeremy’s hips to keep him from moving away. “And I want to let you.”

Message from the Author

Hi everyone!  Julie Ann Walker here, delighted to be talking today about my mad love for men on motorcycles whose hearts happen to be as big as their… ehem… hogs.  (That’s slang for their bikes!  Get your heads out of the gutter, you naughty readers! *wink, wink*)

But seriously, from the King of Cool, Steve McQueen, to Marlon Brando in The Wild One, to Charlie Hunnam in Sons of Anarchy, there has always been something about a guy riding around with rolled steel and a V-Twin engine between his legs.  It sets our hearts aflutter.  And in my Black Knights Inc. series, I try to take those badass bikers to a whole new level by also making them covert government operators.  The series is all spies on bikes, leather and chrome, romance and redemption, action and adventure.  So, what’s not to love?  Nothing!  I guarantee it.

Read on for an excerpt of TOO HARD TO HANDLE.  You’ll see the men of Black Knights Inc. have heart, humor, and everything a woman could want in a man…

Too Hard To Handle by Julie Ann Walker

“Luke Winterfield,” Dan growled. “Under the authority granted to me by the government of the United States of America, I hereby inform you that you’re totally screwed. You made a choice to sell out your country and now you’re gonna face the consequences. Reap the whirlwind, asshole.”

“Nice,” Zoelner said. “Have you been holding on to that one for a while?”

“Came up with it in Bogotá,” Dan admitted, a definite grin in his tone.

“I like it.”

“Thought you might.”

“Really though,” Zoelner went on, “I was expecting some quote from Ted Nugent or Eminem.”

“I can come up with my own material, you know,” Dan insisted. “It’s just I like to give credit to my hometown whenever I can. To make up for the place getting such a bad rap.”

“Maybe it’s because so much bad rap has come out of there,” Zoelner mused. “Insane Clown Posse comes to mind.”

“Hey,” Dan whispered urgently, “don’t say that too loud. You’ll have groups of juggalos beating down your door.”

Zoelner snorted.

“And just so you know,” Dan went on, “what I’ve learned out of this lifetime is you should be proud of where you come from.”

“I’m waiting…”

“Kid Rock said that. Via his Twitter account.”

“And there it is.”

Review

5-stars

As a follower of the series, I was very much looking forward to Dan’s story and I am glad to say that it was what I had expected and so much more!!!

Dan “The Man” Currington has been trying to find his way to life after events that made him drown his sorrows in booze. In the years after tragedy struck, he has been gaining ground and focusing on his job to keep his wits about him. After his last mission, he feels like he’s made strides in his recovery. Although still grieving, he can’t seem to stop thinking about the feisty Secret Service agent he was paired off with on his last mission.

Agent Penni DePaul left the Secret Service after her last assignment. She’s looking forward to starting her new life as a civilian, but she needs to settle a few things first. With that in mind she sets out to find the man that left a lasting impression when she saw him last. She doesn’t know what to expect from the meeting, but she does know that it has to be done.

I loved Dan and Penni’s story! After reading about these two in Full Throttle I was more than curious to know what was in store for them. And with a perfect mix of intrigue, action, humor and romance Julie Ann Walker DID NOT disappoint!

Dan. Dan. Dan. I loved him. He was broody and funny, caring and all kinds of sexy too! I enjoyed watching him moving on with his life–especially seeing him laughing and reconnecting with his buddies. Although still haunted by the events of the past, he showed great strength of character and determination to move forward.

I loved that he was paired with Penni too. Even back in Full Throttle I thought they made a great couple. She was smart, feisty and with a great sense of humor. In the brief time they spent together in the past, she was able to draw Dan out of his self-imposed shell so it was great for me to experience those moments first-hand as this story progressed.

Of course, it helped that they had great chemistry and a well-established connection. The author sure didn’t miss a beat in bringing those two elements to the page. Dan and Penni exchanged many candid, tender moments along with some flirty and heated ones, which for me made the emotional ones that much more poignant. And the sex? Well, let’s just say that my copy is highlighted and bookmarked for a this very reason!!!

Keep in mind that although this is the eighth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. However, I do think that having seen Dan and Penni interact in the previous book enhanced my enjoyment of Too Hard Too Handle. But then again, that’s me–I love experiencing that initial connection between a couple.

As with all the previous books, I also enjoyed visiting with the gang–especially Ozzie. I’ve loved Ozzie from the very beginning, but in this installment there was something about him that intrigued me that much more. I hope his story is next, although I will be picking up the next installment regardless. I’ve really come to love these guys and Julie Ann Walker hasn’t let me down yet.

4 stars

Quinn, a SWAT officer, suddenly finds himself with too much time on his hands following an injury on the job. When his brother in law leaves his pills with Quinn’s neighbor, Quinn is forced to knock on Spencer’s door to retrieve them.

Spencer has been eyeing his neighbor since he moved in a while back, but hasn’t made a move because Quinn doesn’t look like the type that goes for the geeky, nerdy guy. But now that he has Quinn’s medication in hand a meeting is certainly inevitable.

And what a meeting it was!!! I loved it!

These two were so endearing! Quinn was stubborn, somewhat rude but so very adorable in his gruffness. He had a fantastic caring side and an awesome family too. Quinn’s mother was such a great character and spot-on for a Cuban mother! And Spencer? He was smart and geeky with the right amount of charm and strength to draw Quinn in. I truly enjoyed watching them together. The flirting, the candid moments and the undercurrent of sexual tension–everything worked for me.

Quinn and Spencer’s story was the perfect opposite attract story with the right amount of connection, chemistry and drama. An adorable, fun and enjoyable read!!

“This is sad, man. What is it with you and brownies?”

“These aren’t just any brownies,” Spencer stated proudly as he removed his latest batch of baked chocolate decadence from the oven. “These are Nutella caramel brownies with nuts, made from scratch. These are orgasm-in-your-mouth brownies.”

“Not really sure what to think about that,” Danny muttered, eyeing the brownies dubiously. “Seriously, dude. The only orgasm you should be chasing is the one waiting next door. This is your perfect chance! He’s defenseless.” Danny reached for a brownie, but Spencer slapped his hand away before he could pilfer one.

“I have to spread the Nutella and top them with walnuts. Also, I don’t know what I find more disturbing: that you think I should take advantage of the poor guy in his defenseless state, or that you believe the only way I’ve got a shot is to take advantage of him in his defenseless state.” He stopped and turned to his pouting best friend. “And FYI, defenseless is what babies and puppies are, not huge-ass mountain men in possession of heavy artillery. I ran into him once, literally, and it’s like he’s made out of fucking granite. He’s got an eight-pack. An eight-pack.”

Spencer had never seen an eight-pack outside of cyberspace. Until his sexy neighbor, he’d questioned their existence, much like Bigfoot. The sighting had taken place one morning on his way to get groceries. Quinn had been on his way to their gated community’s pool, sporting nothing but low-riding swim trunks and flip-flops. He’d stepped into the elevator next to Spencer, and the heat outside had nothing on the heat that had spread through Spencer’s body. Luckily Quinn had been too busy texting to notice Spencer’s Human Torch impression.

“I have… I don’t even know what this is.” Spencer lifted up the hem of his apron and the Hulk T-shirt underneath with a frown. He ran his finger down a groove along his torso as he sucked his stomach in. “Does this look like muscle definition to you?”

Danny reached over to pat Spencer’s pale belly. “Looks like you need to stop baking brownies. And get some sun, man. Look at you. You’re not even white. You’re like, transparent.”

“That’s harsh.” Spencer lowered his clothes. “I don’t tan like you. I burn. You couldn’t lie to me? Besides, what am I supposed to say to him? ‘Hi, remember me? I’m the guy who’s been living next door to you for the past year. We pass each other in the hall every day, take the elevator together, have parking spaces next to each other, have mailboxes next to each other, do laundry in the same room together, and shop at the same supermarket. No? That’s okay. Excuse me while I die of embarrassment.’” Spencer walked around the kitchen counter and flopped down into a chair, waiting for the brownies to cool. “The guy doesn’t know I exist. He’s freakin’ Miami SWAT. He’s probably an overbearing, misogynistic asshole with a giant ego, anyway.”

Danny took a seat next to him, his expression filled with concern. “You don’t know that. Besides, since when do you judge people?”

Spencer narrowed his eyes at his friend. “No one likes a smartass.”

“Says the guy who got a ticket for mouthing off to a police officer.”

“I wasn’t mouthing off. I was being witty and adorable. The guy just had no sense of humor. Besides, I was nowhere near that fire hydrant. He was clearly behind on his quota. Bet that wouldn’t have happened to Quinn.” Was he pouting? Oh God, he was. Danny was right; he was sad.

“Probably because he’s SWAT and can park his ginormous truck wherever the hell he wants.” Danny went to the glass doors of the balcony overlooking the parking spaces and started laughing.

“What?”

“You know how they say dogs look like their owners? I wonder if the same applies to cars.”

Spencer joined Danny at the window, letting out a low groan. His tiny yellow Fiat gleamed cheerfully beside Quinn’s monster black Chevy Silverado. “It looks like a sunspot.”

When your heart is stuck in the wrong gear, a quick fix isn't going to cut it.

Firehouse 69, Book 2

When Noah buys a classic '68 Camaro from a fellow firefighter's widow, he hopes it will ease some of the grief crushing his heart. But the grinding noise under the car's hood sends him straight to a mechanic. Something about the burly, imposing Hoyt sparks Noah's interest, and it's not just Hoyt's ice-blue eyes and bad-boy biker looks. It's the mutual interest they have--Club LaForge.

After losing his partner to cancer a year ago, Hoyt never thought he'd feel the same kind of rush with another man. But his reaction to Noah throbs deep in his body like the rumble of his Harley.

LaForge seems like the perfect place to meet and work off some sorrow, to feel alive again. But the flood of desire quickly gets hot enough to melt their emotional barriers into unexpected connections.

Connections Hoyt isn't sure he's ready for...especially since history has a scary way of repeating itself.

Warning: Get your motor running for a Harley-riding hunk of muscle who doesn't give a damn about the rules of being a Dom, and a firefighter who can take the heat. Buy a case of your favorite coolant. You're gonna need it.

Review

Whenever I start a novella or short story I always go into it expecting to be left wanting. This one left me wanting all right, but not in the way you think!

It’s not every author who can bring forth a short story and leave a lasting impression on me. With Hotter With a Pole, not only was I left satisfied with the content, but I was also impressed by the range of emotions and the overall story.

Noah is on his way to work as a firefighter at Firehouse 69 when he notices that the Camaro he bought from a friend’s widow is acting up. It is when he takes it to get fixed that he meets Hoyt Freeman.

Hoyt hasn’t been in a relationship since his boyfriend’s death a year ago. He’s a Dominant and has played at LaForge, the BDSM club Noah and his friends frequent. But with no one sparking his interest, he hasn’t been driven to participate in the lifestyle. Until he meets Noah.

What I liked about this story was that the author maintained Noah and Hoyt’s connection throughout. Yes, their attraction was instant and their relationship would definitively be defined as insta-love, but their connection was developed throughout. They flirted, talked and bantered back and forth enough to convince me that they had something more than their attraction going for them. Plus, they were HOT together! (which always helps!!!)

Although this is the second installment in the Firehouse 69 series, it can be read as a stand alone. The author gives enough back story to make it easy for the reader to understand to follow along. I haven’t read the first in the series and can attest to that.

All in all, a sweet yet hot heartwarming romance.

Review

This book…just…damn!

Since I loved Trust the Focus so much, I jumped at the chance to read this one. I admit, I didn’t paid much attention to the blurb and just dove in.

I loved Colin with his southern charm and caring heart. He saw Riley and he was immediately drawn to him. Not only because of his tight jeans but because he could see the sadness behind his eyes. He took a chance in offering Riley a ride and although he bit more than he bargained for, he stuck it out. Earning more of my admiration because of it.

Then there was Riley. If ever there was a character that truly got to me it was him. I just wanted to take him away from his pain and just shelter the hell out of him. He was guarded and carried a wealth of pain within himself. But he was sweet and adorable and I wanted nothing more than for him to be happy.

Unlike Trust the Focus this story wan’t an easy read to get through. It had many tough moments and dealt with some heavy topics that I had not seen before in the genre. And that’s another reason why I loved this story so much. It was as poignant and emotionally draining as it was satisfying.

There was the romance which was slow-building and sweet yet intense. Then there was the chemistry between Riley and Colin which was off the charts HOT. Add to that the range in emotions the author brought to the page and you got yourself a winner.

*sigh* I couldn’t have asked for a better story. The feels, the characters, the whole concept–everything worked together to make the reader invest themselves in these characters’ lives. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

4 stars

Well, I wouldn’t say no to a little interlude like this one after having a bad day myself!

Short stories are tricky for me, but I can definitively say that this one turned out well for me. Like Greg, I was a little weary in the beginning but as the story progressed I was more than ready to let myself be swept away from reality.

I liked the characters and relished every bit of their potent chemistry. It was hot and overwhelming and plain old decadent. I certainly wouldn’t mind reading more about these two.

All in all, an amazingly hot little read.

Excerpt

I took another sip of my scotch contemplating what to do next. I could easily take up one of the not so subtle offers I’d received since coming here. Mindless anonymous sex would no doubt get my mind off of things for a while and the thought of it, of losing myself in some nameless man and forgetting everything for a while held great appeal. It’s what I did when I lost the control I needed to keep my little world running smoothly. But I had curbed that part of my psyche that said it was a good idea. Not only would it not solve anything, I knew from firsthand experience that while it felt good while it was happening, when it was over I would feel even worse than I did now.  Besides as hot as the some of the men were in this place, none of them truly appealed to me.  For what I wanted – needed – only a certain type of man would do.  And so far I had noticed no one fitting the bill.

Deciding this was a bad idea; I slugged back the rest of my scotch and winced at the burn as it slid down my throat.  I pulled a few bills out of my wallet, slapped them down on the bar and started to get off the bar stool so I could leave.  I patted my pocket to confirm my phone was there.  I’ll call a cab from outside, I thought. The cool air would probably do me some good.

“You’re not leaving yet are you?” A deep, rough voice said from next to me.

I turned toward the voice to say I don’t know what – because the second I turned and our eyes met, I lost not only my breath but the ability to speak as I stared in to the fathomless pools that were his eyes. The lighting wasn’t the greatest-it was a bar after all-so I couldn’t be one hundred percent sure, but his eyes were so dark they appeared obsidian.  I wanted to see what the rest of him looked like, but I couldn’t look away from his eyes. It was like his captured mine and wasn’t letting go.  My eyes widened in response to the look in his.  There was so much heat and lust in those eyes they shined with a feral light.  I gulped at that look as my heart raced and my dick twitched.

He broke eye contact to look me up and down. From the top of my sandy colored hair to the bottom of my boots, he missed nothing.  Everywhere his eyes landed on me felt like a touch. His eyes swept up again and met mine, then traveled back down looking at my crotch which was quickly filling.  He licked full, sensuous lips as he stared at my cock which was now hard as a spike and pressing insistently against my zipper.

While he continued to stare, I looked him up and down as well.  He had hair so dark it appeared black in the low lighting and a strong jaw with an enticingly heavy five o’clock shadow.  It was so thick he either hadn’t shaved in a day or so or he had to shave twice a day.  Broad shoulders led down to a flat, ripped stomach and narrow waist.  Slim hips, strong legs, and a bulge so big it caused my ass to clench in anticipation.

I suddenly realized while we had been staring at each other, I hadn’t answered his question.  But for the life of me, I couldn’t remember what it was.  All I could focus on was the gorgeous specimen of manhood standing in front of me.  He was pushing all of my buttons.  Built with perfect proportions, add in the scrumptious looking chest hair peeking out from the V of his tight T-shirt and I was in heaven.  I could see that his nipples were hard beneath his shirt, the outline of a nipple ring visible and felt mine peak in response.  My eyes tracked downward stopping at his packed crotch. As I watched, his cock lengthened even more beneath his jeans.  I could tell they were favorites by how worn they were.  They were almost white in some areas.

“I said, ‘You’re not leaving yet’ are you?”  That deep voice washed over me yet again and my eyes flew up to his, my face heating as I realized just how long my attention was focused on his dick.  But in all honesty if you were looking at what I was looking at believe me you wouldn’t blame me in the least.  It was all I could do not to drop to my knees and worship at his bountiful altar.  I raised my eyes back up to his gorgeous face and saw the smirk on those thick lips.

“Like what you see?”  He stepped closer, invading my personal space.  I could feel the heat emanating from his body.  I could smell his delicious scent.  Hot, musky, all man with a hint of sandalwood.  My mouth watered.  I was in so much trouble.  Standing before me was the embodiment of every fantasy, wet dream, and wish I ever had.  I felt my knees go weak.  It was a good thing I was still sitting on the bar stool or I surely would have slid to the floor in a puddle at his feet.  How was a mere mortal such as me supposed to carry on a coherent conversation with a god such as him? My brain was trying to catch up with my cock, but it was a little difficult since all of my blood as well as my good sense had fled my brain and now resided in my cock. Again it took every bit of will power I possessed not to slide off the stool, drop to my knees, unfasten his fly, and suck what I was sure was an impressive dick down my throat.
