I knelt on the floor, adrenaline pumping through me like it did when I was on stage or in a spotlight. I’d never liked this feeling when I did theater productions, which was why I wasn’t an aspiring actress like Gwen. I was too afraid of messing up in front of everyone.

But here I had an audience of one. One person whose opinion mattered.

I couldn’t remember where the zipper was.

“Here. I’ll start,” Axel said. He stripped off his own top in one smooth motion and then lay back down as if he were posing for a portrait entitled Royal Pasha in Repose.  He gestured again to spur me.

Right. There was a tiny clasp hidden at one hip, and then the zipper ran up one side. I undid the zipper and peeled the gown down like white magnolia petals all around me.

“Pretty,” he said, the tip of his tongue exploring his upper lip.

My nipples tightened as if that tongue were touching them.

“Pretty breasts,” he added, as if he noticed. Of course he noticed. “How sensitive are they?”

“I don’t really have a point of comparison.”

“Show me, then. Run your fingers over them lightly, not the nipple, just the skin.”

My cheeks flushed so suddenly it felt almost like sunburn. I’d never performed for a guy before. My fingers were trembling slightly with excitement as I made light circles with my middle fingers around the outside of my breasts. Was this what he wanted me to do?

“Look down,” he said. “Watch your nipples.”

I saw they were crinkling up and standing out like buttons.

“Keep circling, don’t touch them yet.”

“Yes, sir,” I whispered.

“Mm, ‘sir.’ That has a nice sound to it.” He sat up. “Because of the sweet way you said the word.”

I blushed harder. “Sir” had been a guess on my part. This was getting more and more like an improv scene all the time. “Do you like it when I call you ‘sir’?”

“Yes. But why don’t you call me by my name? But you can only call me by my name when you mean it like that.” He moved behind me then, running his hands over my stomach and purring into my ear. “Only when by saying it you mean ‘man who owns my body and my pleasure.’ Say it.”

“A-Axel,” I stuttered.

One of his hands slid down my abdomen under the gathered waist of the gown. “You don’t sound very sure of that.” A finger slid right over my pubic bone but stopped short of my clit. “Who am I?”

“Axel,” I tried again.

The man who owns my body and my pleasure. I leaned back against him, touching my tongue to the back of my teeth as I sucked in a breath. “Axel,” I breathed.

“That’s it,” he said, and rewarded me with a long stroke over my clit.

I was copiously wet and my clit throbbed under his touch, as if being neglected before had made it all the more desperate for contact.

“Last chance to take your gown off before I ruin it,” he whispered in my ear as his finger switched to circling my clit.

“Don’t stop,” I answered, my belly quivering. “Please don’t stop.”

Top 5 ‘Challenges when Writing a Menage’
  1. Pronouns! An extra person in a scene—especially a sex scene—means you have to be creative to identify that extra he or she without using their names over and over.
  2. Body Parts! Like those extra hes or shes, a ménage sex scene involves extra hands, legs, lips—not to mention all the goodies! Choreographing those extra pieces means sometimes I have to bring out the action figures on my desk to be sure there are enough and not too many of anything. (Amy Pond, Michonne and King Leonidas, FYI)
  3. Making sure each character is unique and three dimensional. Sometimes in ménages one of the characters seems less developed than the other two. It’s important to breathe life into all the heroes and heroines in a romance!
  4. Writing a romance that fits three instead of two. By that I mean, I want readers to see not only why all three are together but to believe their happily ever after. I tend to write ménages where all three characters are in love and sexually attracted to and involved with. Any sexual/romantic relationship is in a very real way, a character in and of itself. So I want the reader to see that spark and connection all the way through.
  5. Realism. This is related to many of the things I name above. In a contemporary ménage there are realities I can’t ignore. It may not be central to the storyline, but not everyone would react in a positive way to a family member in any sort of unconventional relationship.
Series Review

The first book in the series is Coming Up and tells Asa and PJ’s story and I loved it from start to finish.

Asa Barron is not exactly Mr. Relationship. He doesn’t want one, he doesn’t have time for one. But that doesn’t mean that when his libido doesn’t perk up at meeting Penelope Jane Colman (PJ). A man who usually doesn’t let an opportunity pass him by, Asa suddenly finds himself conflicted as to how to proceed. Give into his attraction to PJ or keep her at arms length? Soon his attraction to PJ proves to be too much. He wants to make her his, but at what price?

PJ is not one to play by the rules. Considered the black sheep of the family because she didn’t follow the path set out for her, PJ struggles with family relations. She loves her family, but they refuse to ‘see’ her. Dismissing her ideas while they try to pigeon-hole her within the family business. But she’s determined to make a name for herself and the perfect chance for that is to work on the cars at Twisted Steel. But meeting Asa Barron has her struggling to keep her priorities in check. Asa is the type of man she should stay away from, but the very one who ignites all her desires.

As a fan of Lauren Dane, I could NOT pass up on reading Opening Up. How could I when it had the potential to deliver on all fronts?

  • Sexy, alpha-male hero–check!
  • Feisty, strong-headed heroine–check!
  • HOT New series from Lauren Dane–I was sold!

What I enjoyed the most about this title was how both characters struggled with their attraction for the other. It was wonderful to see these two trying not to give in to their desires. Seeing how they hesitated, analyzed and ultimately gave in to what was brewing between them made for a fantastic read for me.

Of course, it helped tremendously that Lauren Dare infused that sexual tension with some humor and honest interactions. I found PJ and Asa’s stories, the secondary characters and the men camaraderie to be the perfect complements to the romance that was blossoming.

I came to admire Asa’s loyalty and his caring side. It showed whenever he interacted with his family and eventually it transitioned to include PJ too. Likewise, I admired PJ’s independent and care-free heart. She was talented and friendly. I enjoyed watching her come into herself and stand up for what she wanted, not only from her family but from Asa too.

The secondary characters played an integral part of the story. I enjoyed how PJ and Asa’s interaction with other characters showcased the different sides to their personalities that otherwise would have been kept hidden. I especially loved Duke Bradshaw and I’m curious to read his story, which comes in the next book in the series.

As I’ve come to expect from Lauren Dane, ASa and PJ’s chemistry was off the charts hot and completely tantalizing. I loved it whenever these two came together intimately, just as much as I enjoyed their bickering and flirty banter.

As the first in the Ink & Chrome series, Opening Up served its purpose and more. It not only brought forth a fantastic erotic romance but it also set the stage for upcoming books. All in all, an awesome start to a series.

Next we move up to Falling Under, which is Duke Bradshaw’s book. I didn’t know what to expect of the woman who would snag Duke’s attention but it was not Carmella. So you could say I was surprised to see these two together. Of course, Lauren Dane also made theirs a fantastic story and my favorite in the series so far.

Duke is part-owner of Twisted Steel and with the office administrator quitting, he’s in dire need of help. He believes his next door neighbor is the perfect candidate, he’s not expecting however, to find his match in her.

Having worked in his uncle’s shop before and currently unemployed, Carmella Rossi jumps at the opportunity Duke is offering. She’s been lusting for her neighbor from afar, but her focus must stay on her job responsibilities. However, spending her days and even some nights with Duke at the shop has her struggling to keep her attraction for him at bay.

OMG! This story was such a surprising little gem. Especially since I had my doubts about Carmella stepping up to the plate when it came to sexy-as-hell Duke’s way of playing. Not only was I proven wrong, I enjoyed the hell out of it too!

I loved the way Duke and Carmella were brought together and it’s because of this that I consider this my favorite in the series so far. Usually there’s an initial obvious connection to build upon, then the chemistry takes over while that connection is developed. In this story, the chemistry takes center stage from the very beginning and the connection is slow in coming–it is present, but subtle and questionable.

Duke and Carmella had admired one another from afar and their attraction to one another only seemed to increase the more time they spent together. Since Carmella had experienced a bad relationship already, her trust was not easily won. This made it that much harder for their connection to take root. Although it wasn’t an easy feat to accomplish, Duke and Carmella’s connection did grow as the story progressed. I appreciated the author’s efforts to build upon that initial connection by having them share some fantastic candid moments along with honest dialogue about their pasts. It helped that Duke was relentless in his pursuit of Carmella and that they shared a great deal of chemistry. I especially enjoyed the undercurrent of sexual tension that existed between Duke and Carmella–in and out of the shop. Heated looks, whispered dirty words and flirty banter were only some of the elements that helped to showcase Duke and Carmella’s chemistry.

I appreciated the way the author wove Carmella’s story without it taking away from the romance that was building between Carmella and Duke. Especially since I enjoyed watching how their flirty banter and intimate encounters transitioned into something more meaningful but equally intense. The process was slow in coming, but very enjoyable since it provided many amusing moments and showcased how fantastic these two could be.

Which leaves me with the latest release in the series Coming Back, which is Mick’s story. As a fan of the series I couldn’t help but be intrigue by Mick. He had a tendency to keep to himself and whenever prompted to talk about his past relationships he would close off, which of course did nothing to soothe my rising curiosity. But now here’s his story and it was everything I was expecting and more!

Mick and Jess were childhood friends who already shared a deep connection when Adam came into the picture. But Mick’s family and his upbringing made him doubt his place in the relationship and he ultimately ran away and left Jess and Adam to reenlist in the military. Feeling out of control with Mick leaving and with continuing his relationship with Jess, Adam retreated to himself and broke away from Jess leaving her heartbroken and determined to move on.

Mick meets Asa and Duke while serving and eventually moves back home to work in Twisted Steel. He exchanges text and emails with Adam, who’s become a successful architect and has finally found a way to harness his need for control, but Mick hasn’t allowed himself to pursue more with him. All the while, Jess focuses on her work and becomes a successful costume designer and seamstress. Hell, she even attempts to have a relationship with another man. But it’s no use. Mick, Adam and Jess might be living full lives, but there’s an empty place that can only be filled by being together again.

Mick, Adam and Jess have a shared history that left them all with heartache and regrets. Coming together again to celebrate Mick’s success allows them the chance to rebuild bridges and try their hand at a relationship again. Although their love for one another has remained constant, they are not the same people they were back then.

These three are committed to not make the same mistakes that tore them apart, but that’s not to say that their journey is without obstacles, mistakes nor regrets.

What I enjoyed the most about this story was the way Lauren Dare allowed the reader to get to know each character as an individual while still giving them the opportunity to see them relate to one another as part of a triad relationship. I appreciated her effort in bringing forth their past connection while she strengthened and showcased how deeply connected they currently were. Of course, the fact that they shared an amazing chemistry added to my enjoyment, but if I’m being honest it was those candid moments spent talking about their past, their needs and their doubts that ultimately sold me on their relationship.

All in all, an amazing steamy yet romantic series. I’ve come to love the characters and have enjoyed seeing each of the men of Twisted Steel find their happily ever after. Lauren Dane has done a fantastic job with this series and I can’t wait to see what she has in store next for her readers.

Excerpt–Coming Back

“Shirt off, Jess,” Adam whispered in her ear like a fallen angel luring her to temptation.

“Just because it’s off doesn’t mean it has left my custody,” she told Mick as she whipped her shirt up and over her head. If she was expected to give back all the clothing she pilfered, she’d be naked a third of the time. She stole them, they were hers. That was the rule.

Mick’s grin made her tingly and swoony. Honestly, how could she ever have thought happiness was possible without these two people in her life?

“I’d never think to steal my shirts back once you have them.” Mick stepped close enough to slide his upper body against hers.

Laughing, Mick reached around her to get Adam’s shirt free as well. “You too.”

Jessi turned in their arms so she could get a look at Adam, and holy cow was she glad she had. Tawny skin played over his upper body. No ink but on his inner forearm at his elbow. Jessilyn. In her handwriting. He’d shown it to her the last time she’d seen him.

“I never told you why I put your name there,” Adam said as she slid her fingertips over his skin.

She waited for the telling and when she did, he smiled, grinding his cock into her.

“You’re my addiction. The thing I need more than anything.”

Always so tough. So taciturn and grumpy. And yet, so very tender it broke her heart sometimes. Hell, he’d broken her heart more than once too. It came with loving him, she’d finally accepted.

“Is that why you denied yourself?” She gave in and combed her fingers through his hair. “And denied me too, I might add.”

“I had to work through a lot of shit, and I couldn’t do it with anyone else. I had to do it alone.” His voice was rough, full of guilt and anguish.

“I hear the guilt in your voice. Let it go.” Selfishly, she wanted him to be unfettered when he came to her at long last. So she’d know he was there for good.

“So you don’t hate me?” he asked.

Startled, her eyes widened and she tugged on his hair to get his attention. “I could never hate you, Adam, and if I did, I wouldn’t be here. I’m here because I’ve always been here, just waiting for you to remember that.”

He pressed into her body as Mick gave no quarter at her back. Being squeezed that way kept her immobile.

And it was delicious.

He said nothing else before he bent to kiss her. At first slow, teasing, sexy kisses that heated her belly and made her knees feel like noodles. He licked at her lips, teasing her mouth open until she sighed happily.

Mick played his fingertips up her sides, brushing over the curve of her breasts. “When I saw these tonight I knew you’d worn that dress for me.”

“I admit that when I tried it on and it had all that tasteful side boob I knew you’d appreciate it,” Jessi said as Adam moved away from her mouth.

“Who doesn’t appreciate it?” Adam asked as he stepped back enough to grab the waistband of her pajama bottoms and shove them down her legs, along with her panties. “As far as side boob goes, yours is aces.”

Jessi laughed and then got nervous because they both still had pants on and there she was naked as a jaybird.

“Mick, why don’t you lead our angel to the bed?” Like a switch had been thrown, Adam took charge. He drew authority around himself like a cloak.

Mick backed her up slowly, caressing her shoulder before pressing kisses across her skin.

It was really happening. After years of going through the motions, here it was, the moment she’d been waiting for since she’d woken up to find out Mick had reenlisted.

Desire made her limbs heavy, left her movements languid as Mick shifted to lay her back on Adam’s big bed.

“I’m naked and neither of you are,” she said, proud she’d remembered all her words. She got snagged up in the details. The muscles and ink. Both men’s gazes roamed her face and her body and there was no mistaking just how happy they were to be right there.

The inner walls of her pussy contracted on nothing, sharpening the ache.

“Patience,” Adam said.

She raised a brow his way. “Are you new here?”

Mick, laughing, bent to kiss her.

A crack sounded and Mick groaned into her mouth as he moved forward. Did Adam just spank Mick? Jeez, they had to hold some of this super hot stuff back or she’d burn to cinder.

She opened her eyes to watch Mick straighten, a flush on his neck. Adam liked it too, getting caught up for a few moments before turning back to Jessi.

“I’m not new here, no. I know you’re impatient and greedy when it comes to orgasms.”

Jessi grinned at Adam, knowing there was a but coming along soon.

“But I’m in charge. You’ll get what you’re begging for. When I’m ready to give it to you.”

One of those sort‑of orgasms, the kind you had in dreams, stole through her as she squeezed her thighs together. He was going to kill her from desire. Or something. She really couldn’t wait.

3-5 stars

After events in the previous book, Rafe and Nicole relocate to gather their resources and continue their two week arrangement. Although burdened to fight the threat and surrounded by his men, Rafe’s determined to make the most of his time with Nicole. It seems he can’t get enough of her and Nicole appears to feel the same way. But as the danger moves in closer and their time comes to a close, can Rafe and Nicole make something more of their time together?

After reading Power and Possession I was looking forward to seeing how these two would fare in their ‘arrangement’.

Rafe and Nicole continue to have an intense chemistry that jumps of the page every moment they spent together. Rafe was trying to keep Nicole at bay of the threat against his business, which in turn had him pulled in two different directions–work and pleasure. This added to the tension between them, which made for a great read.

I did find that the longer it took Rafe to fight the threat against him, the more distracted he became. This had its advantages and disadvantages too. Like I said, he made every effort to keep Nicole distracted so he upped the ante and their sexual encounters increased in heat. Phew! Those two surely sizzled together. I did miss their candid moments, but the author more than made it up by bringing more emotion to their encounters. So a win-win there for me. 😉

In regards to the threat, I think the author made a great effort of keeping the reader intrigued while still not complicating the plot and overwhelming the reader. I found myself wondering what the hell was happening next and where the hell Zhou and his mistress/child were. I was eager for the threat to be eliminated so that I could finally know where Rafe and Nicole stood in their relationship, but I appreciated that the author didn’t skim on bringing forth the conflict.

As a follow-up book in the Reckless series, Seduction and Surrender, worked very well. Not only does the reader get a continuation on the arrangement started in the previous book, it also gave them an intriguing storyline and a set of fantastic characters that added something to the overall story.

Although I was satisfied by the story the author brought about, the story lost a bit of it luster. I attribute this to my difficulty to follow the multiple third person POV used, however, I can understand why the author felt the need to go this route. Nonetheless, it took me away from the story several times, which resulted in my interest waning from time to time.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

Twenty minutes later, the helicopter banked steeply to the right, the pilot pointed, and Rafe’s private island rose out of the Adriatic Sea, spreading slowly across the horizon—a sizable expanse of mountainous landscape visible through the shimmering mist, a faint silhouette of a distant castle materializing out of the haze.

Nicole’s brows shot up in surprise. “A castle?” Leaning in close to Rafe so he could hear her over the rhythmic thump, thump, thump of the rotors, she felt a shiver run up her spine. “You didn’t mention a castle.” Castles had dungeons! Kink and dungeons were practically a stereotype, her overactive imagination pointed out, even as a flashback of images from way too many horror films suddenly had her heart tripping. Jesus, get a grip! She was on holiday with the most ridiculously beautiful, shamelessly lovable, wet dream of a man; life couldn’t be better. Okay?

“It’s not exactly a castle yet.” Rafe smiled. “It’s closer to a rock pile that’s burning through money. I call it my hobby. My accountant calls it a nightmare. ”

“Speaking of nightmares,” Nicole said, her apprehensions flaring again at the reference to things that go bump in the night. “Reassure me about dungeons. Don’t ask. It’s stupid, I know, but…”

Taking note of Nicole’s trepidation, Rafe chose a marginal lie rather than argue reality versus her wild imagination. “No dungeons. Don’t worry. And you’ll love the room that’s been restored in the tower,” he offered, avoiding further discussion of dungeons. “You can pretend you’re a twelfth-century demoiselle. I’ll pretend I’m the crusader who never reached the Holy Land, built this castle instead, and chose the lucrative life of a pirate.” He grinned. “So wanna play? I’ll make it worth your while.”

A small frown mirrored her lurking anxiety. “I don’t know—maybe, probably, let me think.” Rafe’s unencumbered views on wealth always gave her pause to consider—how he could buy anything and anyone, pleasure and perversion alike, no hassle, no questions. And the words pirate and play weren’t particularly reassuring on this remote island with its spectacular limestone cliffs, wind-swept twisted pines, and medieval ruins.

“Maybe?” A teasing query. “Look, if you must know—and don’t you dare laugh—your castle ruin is kinda creepy. It reminds me of Frankenstein’s monster.”

Rafe’s brows rose. “Seriously? You believe in that shit?”

“I’m trying not to— oh God, is that the tower?” As the distance to the island narrowed, the castle tower loomed, half derelict, dark and gloomy against the blue sky. She squinted, took a small breath, and muttered, “That’s scary.”

He stared at her. “You’re kidding.”

“Okay, how about it makes me a little unsettled?”

His smile was so wide, his goddamned dimples showed. “Meaning?” she said, half guarded, wishing she hadn’t watched so many spooky movies.

“Come on, pussycat, relax,” he said pleasantly. “I promise you’ll have fun.”

Nicole gave him a hard, steady look. “No offense, but I’m in the middle of fucking nowhere. I’m allowed to wuss out.”

He flicked a glance at the passengers behind them. “You’re in the middle of nowhere with beaucoup bodyguards. You’re safe as hell.” A small smile. “If that’s what you want.”

“They’re your bodyguards.” Her eyes grew wide. “Jesus, don’t look at me like that.”

His smile was pure, bad-boy brilliance. “Like what?”

“Like you’re going to eat me alive.”

“As I recall, you like—”

She put her hand over his mouth because the pilot was grinning and she wasn’t anywhere near as blasé as he was.

He licked her palm and she jerked her hand back and tried to glare at him, but he was smiling at her now like she was the best thing that had ever happened to him and her frustration fell away before the flat-out beauty of his smile.

Recognizing her capitulation, he leaned in, tucked a dark curl behind her ear, and kissed her cheek softly. “Consider me your guardian angel,” he murmured, and at her skeptical look, amended it to “Personal guardian—how about that? And we’ll have privacy once we land.” He flicked a glance toward the pilot. “Just you and me. No one else.”

“Except for those people down there.” She pointed at a small village of whitewashed, blue-roofed houses spilling down the hillside from the castle gates. “And the staff required for that.” A sprawling peach-colored Venetian palazzo surrounded by gardens came into view beyond the castle walls.

Rafe touched her ear with his lips. “Everyone will keep their distance. I’ve given orders. So you’re free to scream as loud as you like, wherever and whenever you like.”

She turned, grinning. “Appreciate your foresight and planning.”

“I’m here to make you happy, Tiger.”

Levi “Painter” Brooks was nothing before he joined the Reapers motorcycle club. The day he patched in, they became his brothers and his life. All they asked in return was a strong arm and unconditional loyalty—a loyalty that’s tested when he’s caught and sentenced to prison for a crime committed on their behalf.

Melanie Tucker may have had a rough start, but along the way she’s learned to fight for her future. She’s escaped from hell and started a new life, yet every night she dreams of a biker whose touch she can’t forget. It all started out so innocently—just a series of letters to a lonely man in prison. Friendly. Harmless. Safe.

Now Painter Brooks is coming home… and Melanie’s about to learn that there’s no room for innocence in the Reapers MC.

Painter is not a relationship kind of guy. He lives for his club and his art anything else is inconsequential. Until he meets Melanie. She brings all his protective insticts to the surface and he vows to protect her even from himself. An unlikely friendship develops between these two until their attraction and emotions for one another brings them together.

But Painter’s life revolves around his club and when they come calling he goes on riding–getting himself arrested and leaving Melanie to deal with the fallout.

Melanie recognizes that Painter is not the ideal candidate for a fairy tale relationship, but she’s drawn to his sexy ways, his quiet/brooding demeanor and the tender side he only shares with her. She loves him and would love nothing more than to make a life with him. But can she forgive his mistakes and accept him and his world, unconditionally?

As a follower of the series, I was curious to read Painter and Mel’s story. I found Painter to be an intriguing character with a huge sense of loyalty and a protective streak a mile wide. I admired his determination to keep his distance from Melanie in the beginning and the way he owned up to his mistakes–whichever times Melanie saw it fit for him to do. I did have to fight the urge to throttle him quite a few times, but ultimately I understood where he was coming from and admired his loyalty to his club and his family.

Melanie? Well, she frustrated me to no end. Yes. No. Maybe. Her whiplash inducing thought process had me growling at her through my tablet (a first for me!). However, I understood her concerns so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and hoped she would eventually go back to ‘seeing’ him instead of letting herself be led by past hurts.

Thankfully, it all worked out as expected and I enjoyed the process thoroughly. I enjoyed how the author went about telling their story, especially since she went the extra mile in allowing the reader to experience their journey every step of the way. Of course, Painter and Mel’s chemistry was easily palpable and explored fully at every encounter. There’s no doubt Joanna Wylde knows how to bring the heat. These two were explosive for sure and their interactions outside the ‘bedroom’ (really, was there a bedroom?!) were just as explosive. Tempers flaring, emotions running rampant. Yes, excellent reading material!

This is the fifth book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. However, I would recommend the reader pick up Reaper’s Stand. This is where Painter and Mel meet and tells of the event that lands Painter in jail the first time. It’s not necessary, but it did help me to understand Melanie better. But that’s me–a proven series maniac.

All in all, Reaper’s Fall was a fantastic read that induced quite a few temper tantrums on my part. That’s what I call a win-win. An amazing story that got a reaction out of me. 😉

reaper's fall teaser 2

“You’re not going back to the party.”

She cocked her head, and I saw the confusion in her alcohol- glazed eyes as she wrinkled her nose at me. All cute, like a rabbit.

“You look like a bunny.”

“You look like an ax murder,” she said, frowning. “And I thought London was looking for me. Aren’t we going the wrong way?”

“I lied. I do that a lot,” I told her, staring at her lips. I reached out, catching her chin in my hand, running my thumb across her lips. Our eyes locked, and I don’t know if her pulse started to rise but mine sure as fuck did. What the hell had I been thinking, writing to this girl? She was so pretty and perfect and had this amazing, magical life just waiting for her and all I could think about was dragging her down into the dirt and shoving my cock into every hole she had.

She’d scream while I did it, too, the same sweet screams that played in my head every night while I jacked off.

I hated myself.

“Why did you lie?” she asked, her voice a whisper.

“To get you away from Taz. It’s not safe with him.”

Mel’s forehead creased in confusion, her brain moving so slowly I could practically see the wheels turning behind her eyes. She might be smart as fuck most of the time, but she’d transitioned to drunker than fuck tonight. Kit. Kit and Em. They’d done this to her.

I leaned in closer, catching her scent. For an instant I swayed, so tempted . . .

“They told me all about you,” she whispered.

“The other girls. Kit, Em. Jessica. I know how you operate,” she continued. One of her hands rose, touching my chest. Fire burst through me, because if I’d wanted her before I was desperate for her now. She was so soft, so sweet . . . so perfect.

Then her words sank in.

“What did you just say?”

“They told me all about you,” she said, eyes dropping to stare at  my lips. “They told me you have a Madonna-whore complex.” I froze.

“A what?”

“A Madonna-whore complex,” she repeated, her voice earnest. “You like to screw dirty girls and you put clean girls on pedestals, where they can stay perfect and pure. That’s pretty messed up, Painter. There’s no such thing as Madonnas and whores. We’re all just people.”

The words stunned me. What the hell was she talking about? Just because I didn’t want her dragged down in the drama and bullshit of this life didn’t mean I had some sort of fucking complex. And who the hell were the Hayes sisters to have an opinion? I couldn’t tell what pissed me off more—the fact that they’d talked to Mel about me or that they hadn’t done a better job of scaring her off.

She wasn’t supposed to be here.

“Kit and Em are crazy, and that friend of yours—Jessica? She’s like a car crash. You don’t belong here, Mel.”

“And where do I belong?”

“With some nice kid who’ll treat you like a queen and work his ass off to give you everything perfect for the rest of your life.” The words were practically a growl.

Her eyes widened.

“What if I don’t want perfect?”

“Too fucking bad, because that’s what you’re getting.”

As a follower of the series, I was glad to hear that there was going to be an additional and final story in the series. With Mine, Stacey Kennedy takes us back to Dmitri and Presley, the first couple in the Club Sin series.

Club Sin and its members are facing exposure, leaving Dmitri to find a way to may things right. But while he’s working on a solution to end the threat, he pushes Presley away. Presley is surprised and more than a little hurt that Dmitri is shutting her out at a time when its obvious he needs someone by his side. She thought she had found the perfect partner in Dmitri–in and out of the dungeon–but was it all a lie?

I’ve come to love this series and found Mine to be a great way to bring it to a close. Not only did it take me back to the initial couple, it also gave me a glimpse into how the other couples were holding up. I especially enjoyed seeing the way Presley had come into her own. She stood up for herself even when it hurt to confront some of the uncertainties in her relationship with Dmitri. I was glad she had grown a back bone.

And although I wanted to throttle Dmitri more than once, I appreciated the way the author brought his struggle to the page. Dmitri was loyal, strong and protective but I loved seeing his more vulnerable side. He loved his club and I was glad to see that he loved his sub too. 😉

As expected, Stacey Kennedy brought everything together seamlessly. And she took it even a step further by giving us closure while still laying the ground for a new series. Dungeon’s Key promises to be even hotter than Club Sin and I can’t wait to read more about the four men that she introduced.

“Thank you for that, sir,” she whispered.

He chuckled, slapping her ass. “I suspect those legs might not be working so well at the moment.”

“You’d be right.” She laughed in the sweet way that brought him so much joy. “They don’t.”

He brushed his hand over her face, moving the strands of hair off to see her better. “How was that for you?”

“Amazing. My God!” Her smile was dozy, her eyelids were lowered, and her cheeks were flushed. “You increased the intensity with the whip tonight, didn’t you?”

“I did.” He grinned, loving the glorious twinkle in her eyes. “And you liked it.”

“I sure as hell did.”

He took the measure of her, resting his soft dick against the crease of her bottom. She looked well fucked and satisfied. “I love you, doll.”

“I love you, too.” She lifted up and angled her head to steal a kiss.

Nothing but adoration filled him as he allowed her to take his mouth. He liked that she knew him so well. The closeness they had was the one thing he hadn’t counted on when he lived a bachelor life. There was a difference between a casual submissive and what he had with Presley. She knew when she could take from him and when he’d allow it. Like now, in the afterglow of his orgasm. And she, being a clever woman, used it to her full advantage. She’d often steal kisses, and he thought she liked to because it made her feel special. Only she could do that to him.

As he straightened to remove the spreader bar, he heard a voice next to him say, “I need to speak with you, sir.”

Dmitri turned, and at the shock of the interruption, he snapped, “On your knees, sub!”

The young Club Sin submissive Sarah, who had turned twenty-three a few days ago, dropped to the ground in a heartbeat. Her head was bowed to the ground and her hands were twined together. “Explain yourself,” he growled at her. “And do it now!”

“I’m sorry for interrupting you and Presley, sir.” Her head lifted, revealing terrified brown eyes. “But it’s important.”

Interrupting a scene between a Dom and sub in Club Sin was the greatest offense. Knowing that, Dmitri took consideration over Sarah, spotting the fear in her expression. He suppressed his further reprimand. “What do you need to say, Sarah?”

She lifted her hand, offering him an envelope. “I have something to show you. It can’t wait.”

“Show me.”

She shook her head, looking everywhere but at him. “Not here. Believe me, it’s private.”

Something fearful passed in her expression, raising Dmitri’s alarms. “Sarah, look at me.” When she stared into his eyes, he added in a dry voice, “My cock is soaked with Presley’s cum and is hanging out for all to see. You’ve also just interrupted our scene. Show me whatever you have to. I will not repeat myself again.”

She hesitated, giving Presley a pained look, then turned to Dmitri again. “Okay, sir.” With shaky hands, she opened the envelope and handed Dmitri a stack of pictures.

He kept one hand on Presley’s back, telling her to stay put as he looked at the photos. In that very second, he knew his life would never be the same again.

And that Club Sin was in grave danger.

By day, he’ll show her a side of Paris not found in any guidebook. By night, he’ll introduce her to a passion beyond her wildest dreams. Kate is an artist who just graduated college and is traveling to Paris to ‘find herself’. Looking forward to a day of sketching the sites, she stops for a cup of coffee only to realize her purse had been stolen by the man who ran into her in line. But seems luck is on her side when a handsome stranger comes to her rescue buying her coffee and proposing she spend the day with him visiting the sites. Skeptical but curious about what the stranger could offer she accepts, not expecting to find love along the way.

Rylan decided to escape his family’s troubles in Paris. He spends his days romancing women and trying to forget where he came from. Easy enough since he has the looks and the money to make it happen. What he hasn’t found yet (and wasn’t looking for) was a woman who looked beyond what he portrayed. Soon he is discovering that although he can run from his past, he can’t run away from what Kate makes him feel.

I enjoyed this story very much. Although the concept has been done before, I found that it was well thought-out. There was the usual insta-lust, the brooding millionaire and the young tourist willing to explore more than the city. But there’s where the similarities stop.

Although Kate seemed innocent and young, the author didn’t portray her as weak. Actually, Kate wasn’t easily won over by Rylan’s charm and stood by her decision to take things slow. Yes, she took the chance in having a fling but she maintained her head throughout. Rylan surprised me even more. He was the quintessential playboy, but when it came to Kate he never pressured. Yes, he tried to seduce her, but once he acknowledged that Kate was not like any other women he had met he slowed down. Which served to highlight the fact that what Kate and Rylan shared was more than physical attraction.

Although emotions came into play along the way, the author didn’t go the insta-love route, which I appreciated. Kate enjoyed her adventure until it became clear she needed to step back before she got even more involved. I admired her for walking out and wanted to throttle Rylan for failing to realize what he felt for Kate before things went downhill.

Needless to say that Rylan and Kate had great chemistry. It’s fantastic when a touch, a look or a simple chaste kiss between the couple can have me sighing in enjoyment. So of course, once they started getting more physical I loved it too!

My problem with this story was the pace and the ending. The story moved slowly in the beginning, which I understood since they were total strangers and all. But then when it picked up and I was riveted and invested in what was happening it slowed down again only to fast forward to that ending. Not that I’m not looking forward to the next part of Rylan and Kate’s story, I just wished I’d gotten a little bit more between Kate leaving and Rylan finding her again.

Now to wait until the next installment to see if these two have a chance at happily ever after. All in all, a romantic sexy read that’ll leave you wanting more.

Kate stayed firmly planted in her seat as he offered to help her up. Trying her best to appear unaffected, she arched one eyebrow. “Does this usually work for you?”

The guy didn’t pull his hand back or in any other way appear to alter his strategy, and Kate had to give him points for that. “Yes, actually.”

The sad truth was, his offer was beyond tempting. The attention was nice, especially after her self-esteem had been beaten down the way it had in the past year. Hell, in the past twenty-two. It wouldn’t hurt to have someone who spoke fluent French showing her around, either. That he was as attractive as he was just made the deal sweeter.

“Not working so well on you, then?” he asked as she considered him.

“Not so far.”

His smile only widened. “Good. I like a girl who’s hard to crack.” Standing up straighter, he held his palms out at his sides. “Come on, what have you got to lose?”

“I’d say my wallet, but that’s already gone.”

“See? Low stakes. Listen, you don’t trust me.” That was an understatement. Was there a man left on Earth that she did? “I don’t blame you. Devilishly handsome man wanders into a café and buys you a drink without asking? Offers to show you around town? Very suspicious.”

“So let’s make this safe. You said you wanted to see the Louvre? Let’s go to the Louvre. I’ll show you all my favorites, and then if I haven’t murdered you by supper time, you let me take you someplace special. Someplace no guide book in the world would ever recommend.”

She was really running out of reasons to say no. It was a good plan, this one. They’d be in a public place. She’d have time to feel him out a little more. And if he wasn’t too much of a psycho, well, everyone had to eat, didn’t they?

Still, she kept up her air of skepticism. She rather liked all his efforts to convince her. “I don’t even know your name.”

The way his dimples shone when he lifted up one corner of his mouth was completely unfair. Extending his hand again, he offered, “Rylan. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Rylan. That was unusual. She liked it.

“Kate,” she volunteered in return, and with no more real excuse not to, she accepted the handshake, slipping her palm into his. Warm fingers curled around hers, his thumb stroking the side of her hand, and oh. The rake. He bent forward as he tugged on her hand, twisting ever so slightly so he could press his lips to the back of her palm.

“I’ll bet you are.” But her pulse was racing faster, and the kiss felt like it seared all the way to her spine.

This man was dangerous.

He straightened up but he didn’t let go. Sweeping his other arm toward the door, he asked, “So?”

She hummed to herself as she gazed up at him, as if there was any question of what she was going to do. His blue eyes sparkled, like he already knew her answer, too.

“Well.” She rose from her seat, feeling taller than usual. More powerful. Maybe it was all the flattery of a guy like this hitting on her. Maybe it was the headiness of making this kind of a decision. Either way, it made her straighten her shoulders and insert a little sway into the movement of her hips.

“Lead on,” she said.

He didn’t let go of her hand. “That’s what I was hoping you’d say.” With a squeeze of her fingers, he took a step toward the door. “Let’s go look at some art.”

External pressures aside, she had come to Paris to be inspired by beauty. She could find it on the walls of a famous museum. And she could find it in the lines of this man’s shoulders and throat. The latter might not have been what she’d had in mind when she’d set out, but what was a little bit of a diversion?

You couldn’t find yourself without taking a couple of side trips, after all.

Friction (Legal Affairs #8)
by Sawyer Bennett

A Contemporary Erotic Romance
From Montlake Romance
Released October 27th 2015

At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

Amazon | Barnes & Noble

4 stars

Right out of law school and her first day on the job Leary Michaels is ‘schooled’ in what she should do to be successful in her field and she hasn’t looked back since. No longer the insecure newbie at the office, Leary has a friends with benefits relationship with a fellow partner and it’s one of the most successful attorneys in town.

With a new case that’s of a personal nature, she’s more determined than ever to win and will use any trick she has up her sleeve. But what she wasn’t expecting was to meet her match in the courtroom and have him bring to the surface all kinds of emotions she’s not familiar with.

The last thing Reeve Holloway was expecting when he was assigned his latest case was to be going against a powerhouse of a woman that was as sexy as she was smart. He knows he can’t make a move, but he’s drawn to her in every way. He figures as long as the lines don’t get blurred they can have their fun in and out of the courtroom.

But soon they both find themselves sharing more than their bodies and flirty banter. Their careers and their hearts are on the line and neither one knows what the future holds.

Sawyer Bennett has fast become one of my favorite authors. I’ve enjoyed her Last Call and Cold Fury Hockey series, so it was a given that I would jump at the chance to explore this one as well. And I got to say, it was everything I’ve come to expect from her and more.

What I enjoyed the most about this book was the way the author mixed the legal and romance elements in a way that allowed the reader to get the full extent of understanding from the story. I was intrigued not only by the characters but by the legal case itself.

Of course, Reeve and Leary’s chemistry and emotional connection helped tremendously in my enjoyment of the story. I loved watching them give into their attraction and seeing their connection grow throughout. I also enjoyed their flirty banter and their bickering in and out of the courtroom. They truly had met their match in each other and the author didn’t miss a beat in bringing that to the page.

Keep in mind that although this is the eighth book in the series it can certainly be read as a stand alone. It centers solely on Reeve and Leary’s relationship while still bringing forth an engaging and intriguing storyline. Another winner for Sawyer Bennett.

All in all, a tantalizing and steamy read.

Sexy New Release! Blue Blooded (Benediction #3) by Shelly Bell *Review*

Blue Blooded Book Cover Blue Blooded
Benediction #3
Shelly Bell
Erotic Romance
Avon Impulse
October 13th 2015
Publisher via Barclay Publicity

A woman who refuses to be tied down...

Investigative reporter Rachel Dawson is always looking for her next big story. While working on a feature about BDSM, she lands a one-night, no-holds-barred pass into the exclusive sex club, Benediction. Rachel doesn't have a deviant bone in her body—or so she thought—until the infuriating, ex-soldier Logan Bradford convinces her to try rope bondage under his capable hands. But a steamy night turns deadly when Rachel and Logan witness a gruesome murder.

A Dom who's determined to bind her to him...

Framed for a crime they didn't commit and hunted by corrupt FBI agents, they flee. As Rachel and Logan search for evidence to clear their names, the attraction they've been fighting ignites into fiery passion. Love is the last thing Rachel wants, but night by night, as Logan binds her body, he unravels the knots around her heart. And when they uncover a shocking political conspiracy, Rachel will stop at nothing to reveal the truth…and it just might kill her.

After spending the good part of a week feeding my series OCD and reading the previous books in the series, I found myself having mixed feelings about starting Blue Blooded.

You see, Rachel had not made a huge impression on me and I was hesitant about reading her story. Thankfully, Logan was one of the previous characters that had caught my eye so I decided to give the book a try before letting myself be led by my feelings towards Rachel.

And I am glad that I decided to go ahead with this read. Although the beginning felt a bit awkward with that first scene between Logan and Rachel, as the story progressed and the plot started evolving, I found myself immerse in the story and enjoying both the romance and the intrigue brought the author brought to the page.

Of course, it helped that Logan and Rachel had great chemistry and that the author didn’t miss a beat in bringing it to the page. Those two were hot together and the sexual tension whenever they were together jumped off the page.

Although not an overly emotional story, Shelly Bell did infuse some rather intense emotions–especially in regards to Logan and Rachel’s hesitancy in coming together. They both had issues they needed to deal with and these brought about a nice range of emotions that helped to round up the story well.

Keep in mind that although this is the third book in the Benediction series it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed visiting with some of the past characters and getting to know some new ones along the way. There was action, some mystery and a hell of a lot of steamy scenes to keep me interested throughout.

All in all, a fantastic steamy read with the right kind of elements blended in to make it worthwhile.

Stranded M Collins ebook

“Listen, princess.” I lift her chin toward mine, meeting this gorgeous big blue eyes.  “I’m not sure if you noticed, but we’re stranded together in the middle of fucking nowhere, with only each other to count on.  You can fight me all you want, but there’s one thing you need to understand.  I’m going to protect you.  I’m going to take care of you.  And in case you haven’t noticed, I’m six-foot-four, and probably have a hundred pounds on you.  My body is going to produce a lot more heat than yours.  Now calm the fuck down, and let me get you warm.  Got it, sweetheart?”  Her fighting stops immediately.

She nods, coyly, blinking those baby blues at me, all of her fight disappearing.  “Got it.” Her voice is small, and I suddenly feel like a dick.

“Good. Glad we’re on the same page.” I tug her body closer so we’re pressed tightly together, and I hold her to my chest, wrapping her in my arms. A contented little sigh escapes her lips. The top of her head doesn’t even reach my chin. She packs a lot of sass for such a small thing.  I inhale, and breathe in the scent of her shampoo. The smell of vanilla and lavender fill my nose.  Damn, who knew that combination could be so perfect?  It’s intoxicating and I can feel my body slowly start to react to the smell and the images my mind starts to produce.  The way her slight curves mold to my body serves to warm me up pretty damn quick.

Tall, dark, and dangerously handsome, Zane “Tracker” Colter is the strong, silent type of tattooed muscle biker who drives women wild. But as a master of strategy for the outlaw MC club, Sinner’s Tribe, he doesn’t have time to play around with groupies and biker chicks-especially when he can’t stop thinking about Evie, the girl who got away…

Evie’s been in love with Zane ever since they were children-until he broke her heart and disappeared. Now he’s back in her life, bigger and badder than ever. Zane is stunned by how beautiful and confident Evie’s become, using her artistic talent to customize motorcycles. He wants her so bad, he’d ride through fire to win her back. There’s one problem: Evie is dating his deadliest rival-the leader of the Black Jacks-and if Evie and Zane hook up, there’ll be hell to pay…

4 stars

Zane Colter and Evie were childhood friends. They, along with Jagger (hero on Rough Justice), served as their own support system. Along the years and as they grew older, Zane and Evie started feeling more than brotherly feelings towards each other. Then came the night that would forever change the course of their lives. Betrayal. Secrets. Lies. These are the results of that fateful night and the very things they have to deal with once again when their paths cross in the most unexpected of ways.

As a follower of this series, I was so looking forward to Zane’s story. Not unlike his MC brothers, Zane exuded an air of mystery, but for whatever reason I always thought there was so much more to him that what was put out there. Now after reading his story I am glad to know that I was right–even if what I found out turned out to be more than I had anticipated.

I loved Zane. He was complex to the core–tough, hard-ass, sweet and loyal to a fault. And when in the presence of the woman he loved, all those traits came to the surface tenfold. How could I resist? A sexy biker with a heart of gold who would do anything for his MC and his woman. *sigh*

I liked Evie for him. Although at times I found her a bit flighty, she had backbone and a great heart. I liked that she was smart and supportive, but mostly I came to like her because she was fair and honest when the time called for it. These two were great individuals, but together they were even more wonderful. I enjoyed the hell out of their journey and that’s always a plus for me.

As I’ve come to expect from this author, Evie and Zane’s chemistry was off the charts HOT. They shared the kind of chemistry that sizzled just under the surface whenever they spent time together only to explode on impact as soon as they touched. Sheesh! Some of those scenes they shared were panty-melting and they weren’t even getting physical with each other. So yeah, they were hot together. However, I did feel that their connection lacked some depth. Sarah Castille did a great job of presenting the connection they shared as teenagers, but in the present time it lacked some strength. At least for me. It was clear that it was there, but I would have loved to see it developed further, especially since they had changed and drifted apart as adults.

Keep in mind that although this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. But truly, who would miss out on all the biker goodness that this series has to offer. Jagger and Cade are fantastic and their stories are worth the time as well.

All in all, an emotional yet sexy second chance story with some actions and intrigue thrown into the mix to round it out.

“I can’t do this.” Evie pulled away, her cheeks burning with a flush of heat. She knew Zane, the dark, passionate, slightly awkward high-school senior who made her stomach flutter when he smiled; the boy with a good heart who’d been dealt a bad hand in life; her protector and one-time friend. But this man . . . this biker—broad and heavily muscled, tatted and pierced, ruthless and dominant, who walked and talked with confidence and swagger, and so easily manipulated her body, awakening long dormant passion and desire—was a stranger to her.

A stranger who made her body respond with a single touch. A stranger who ignited a blazing hot chemistry that made her feel alive. A stranger who had disappeared when her father’s body was still warm on the ground.

Zane released a tortured breath and turned her to face him. “Things didn’t go right between us when we met the other day. We had things we needed to say, and we didn’t get to say them.” His corded throat tightened when he swallowed. “Ask me, Evie.”

Emotion welled up in her chest, pushing the words to the tip of her tongue. Although she knew the question was a betrayal in itself, she needed to hear the truth. For Ty. And for her own peace of mind. “Did you kill my dad?”

“No, sweetheart. It wasn’t me.”

Her breath left her in a rush, her knees giving way. If not for his arms around her, she would have fallen to the ground.

“In my heart I knew, but I needed to hear it,” she whispered.

“And I needed to say it.” He brushed a rough finger over her cheek. “After I saw you again, and we had words, I thought we were done. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get over the fact you didn’t wait for me. But I couldn’t stop thinking about you. When I was at your place, and T-Rex had his hands on you . . .”  He drew in a ragged breath. “We’re not done, Evie. I don’t expect you to forgive me for leaving the way I did, and maybe one day I will understand why you didn’t wait, but I will never be done with you.” He cupped her face between his hands and kissed her.

At first, his lips were soft, hesitant, as if he thought she might slap him again, but when a low moan escaped her lips, he deepened the kiss, pulling her closer as he ravaged her mouth. Evie wrapped her arms around him and molded her body against his as she met every desperate stroke of his tongue with one of her own. His grip tightened and when she tried to pull away, gasping for breath, he nipped her bottom lip demanding more.

Shocked by the intensity of her reaction, she wrenched herself away, the rapid rise and fall of her chest matching his, but when she took a step back, he followed, one hand curled behind her neck, the other gentle on her hip as he pressed his lips to her temple. “I got shit to do tonight, but I need to see you again. I’ll swing by your place tomorrow night.”

Her blood chilled, and not just because she wasn’t ready for him to meet Ty. “You can’t. I . . . I have plans.”

“Cancel them.”

God, those two words, demanding and defiant, laced with expectation and desire, did strange things to her stomach. If it had been anyone else she had agreed to meet for dinner, she would have done as he asked. But she had no way of contacting Viper other than making a trip to his clubhouse, which she wasn’t prepared to do, and as Connie said, he wasn’t the kind of man to blow off in such a casual manner. Plus, she needed some distance. Kissing Zane had never been in the program.

“I can’t.”

“Then I’ll find you.” He didn’t wait for a response. Instead he reached over her for the paint box, then took her hand and led her out of the closet, as if he could keep her from running with only his touch.

It would be so easy to give in
