Honestly, I’m ready to take a step back from the Subs Club. Making the kink world a safer place for subs is the sort of bandwagon I’d have boarded as an idealist in my early twenties, but now I’m a pragmatist in my late twenties. I prefer to focus on adopting and raising a child.

But unexpected factors inevitably derail my plans. Like Drix Seger—attractive and the first genuine sadist I’ve encountered. If I were not in the process of renouncing my masochistic ways and becoming the normal, responsible potential father the adoption agency wants to see, Drix and I might do well together.

But he has a foolish name and belongs to a cult of vampyres, and I am quitting kink. So why does Drix’s infatuation with blood and biting make me so hot I can’t think straight? And why, when he looks at me, does he seem to see something beyond a basket case with a stick up my ass?

Can I start a new phase in my life without leaving part of myself behind? Please send help.

—Miles

5-stars

I was lucky to be able to read Miles’s story right after finishing The Subs Club. I was intrigued by his ways–especially his declaration that he would be stepping away from the lifestyle. And also, he was a hell of a pain slut according to the little I learned about him, so I anticipated his story would be epic.

I’m glad to say that it was I was expecting and so much more! A lot more!

Miles is at a stage in life where he feels he needs to finally put down some roots and has decided to adopt. Miles is smart, practical, but he can’t reconcile the thought that he can be a masochist and a father both. He believes himself to be an arrogant jerk who enjoys pain, but doesn’t necessarily see himself as worthy of having it all. It takes meeting Drix, a sadist, for him to accept himself and try his hand at having it all–a successful business, a son, his kink and a partner.

I have to say, this was not exactly an easy read for me. I’m not one for pain and some of the scenes were more ‘out there’ than I am used to reading. However, what made this such an amazing read for me was Miles and the way the author went about telling his story–some humor, range in emotion, banter and kink, kink, kink!

Kudos to JA Rock for not pulling any punches when it came to allowing the reader to see deep into the nitty gritty of Miles’ kink without taking away from his journey–personally and romantically.

I loved that I got to see what drove Miles and what encumbered him too. It made him feel so much more real and his journey all that much more intriguing. I enjoyed watching the complexities of his character and how everything unraveled as the story progressed.

Of course, much of Miles’ growth was aided by Drix’s presence in his life. He brought peace, understanding and a thrill that had gone missing in Miles’ life. Plus, Drix had some intriguing characteristics himself. I enjoyed his easy acceptance of Miles’ kink, doubts and determination to be a father. I also admired his determination to adjust to Miles’ needs and his ability to recognize what Miles needed and when he needed it.

As this is the second book in The Subs Club series, we get to see more of the characters that starred in the first book. We also get to learn the way David plans to move the club in another direction while still getting some insight into the other characters as well.

All in all, an intense amazing read.. I can’t wait to see whose story is next!

A year ago, my best friend Hal died at the hands of an incompetent “dom.” So I started the Subs Club, a private blog where submissives can review doms and call out the douche bags.

A perfect example of the kind of arrogant asshole I mean? The Disciplinarian. He has a pornstache. He loves meat, stoicism, America, and real discipline. And he thinks subs exist to serve him.

But . . . not everything about him is awful. His Davy Crockett act just seems like a cover for his fear of intimacy, and part of me wants to show him it’s okay to get close to people. And, I mean, sue me, but I have fantasized about real discipline. Not role-play, but like, Dave, you’re gonna be thirty in four years and you still work in a mall; get your ass in gear or I’ll spank it.

Not that I’d ever trust anyone with that kind of control.

I’m gonna redefine “battle of wills” for the Disciplinarian. Or I’m gonna bone him. It’s hard to say.

Hi! I’m J.A. Rock, and right now I’m touring the internet talking about my latest release The Subs Club—Book 1 in The Subs Club series. Thanks so much to the blogs that are hosting me on this tour, and be sure to leave comments on the tour posts for a chance to win your choice of two backlist ebooks and a $10 Amazon gift card!
About The Subs Club Universe

After the death of their friend Hal at the hands of an irresponsible dom, submissive friends Dave, Kamen, Miles, and Gould band together to form the Subs Club—an organization seeking to expose dangerous local doms. The club slowly evolves as romances blossom, loyalties are tested, and tensions mount in a community already struggling for unity in the wake of Hal’s death.

From domestic discipline to knife play to fashion paraphilia, and from family drama to new jobs to first loves, the members of the Subs Club explore life’s kinks inside and outside of the bedroom as they attempt to let go of the past and move forward.

Meet Miles

  • Age: 28
  • Occupation: shop owner
  • Orientation: queer
  • Boy Band Stereotype: “sort of a weird combination of the bad boy and the middle-aged, straitlaced accountant who got pulled up onstage to dance during a concert.” –Dave

Intellectual, uptight, and the owner of numerous Mr. Rogers-style cardigans, Miles sometimes takes a while to warm up to people, and vice versa. His friends appreciate his wealth of BDSM knowledge, but they all wish he’d loosen up. Like, just a little.

But Miles’s dirty little not-so-secret is that he’s a true masochist. His favorite activity is knife play, though he has trouble finding tops experienced enough with edge play to do the sort of scenes he’s interested in. Says Dave: “If someone asked him to try pulling a barge through the Erie Canal with a chain attached to his PA piercing, he’d probably do it. But you’d never know that about him, because he dressed like a minister’s daughter and behaved like the easily scandalized maiden aunt in a British drawing room play.”

While Miles initially opposes the founding of the Subs Club, offering a Shakespearean prophecy that rating local doms on a website will backfire, he’s soon seduced by the idea of having a platform through which to discuss the academic and theoretical aspects of kink. He even gets caught up in reviewing the doms.

Miles is conflicted about his feelings toward Hal. While he agrees that Bill Henson, the dom whose ignorance got Hal killed, was in the wrong, he has a hard time not judging Hal for his lack of caution and refusal to grow up. Miles likes for things to be perfect—for people to behave a certain way, and for things to go as planned.

Which is not how life—or humans—work. At all.

Ever since the death of his friend Hal, David’s been preoccupied about safety in the BDSM community. He feels even stronger about it after finding out that the man who hurt his friend has been accepted back in the dungeon he plays at.

After talking to the owners on the club, David is certain that something must be done, so The Subs Club idea takes form. The main idea is to provide an outlet where subs and bottoms can talk freely their concerns, experiences and/or grievances they’ve encountered in the community.

But David’s mind is also occupied with the man with The Disciplinarian. David gets it into his head to expose him as the type of Dom that represents everything he loathes about Doms–arrogant, inconsiderate, unsafe. But soon he recognizes that ‘D’ is more than what he appears to be and the very man who can provide what David needs.

I loved this story mainly because I loved David’s voice. He was adamant about his cause and hid a great deal of fear and uncertainty about his kinky needs. Especially after his friend’s death. But he was also funny, charming and trouble! I was completely smitten with him, especially after he started falling for ‘D’. His journey was a treat to read and I couldn’t get enough. Literally. I was so very disappointed when the story ended, since I enjoyed him so much.

There were other aspects of the story I enjoyed too. JA Rock went to great lengths to bring the kink while still focusing on the other issues surrounding this group of friends. So as expected, David’s ‘scenes’ with ‘D’ where intense yet very revealing in regards to both men. I loved how their relationship transitioned from casual play into something more.

As the first book in a series, The Subs Club worked in all aspects. The author brought to the page not only the romance, connection and chemistry between David and ‘D’, she also introduced an intriguing set of characters and set the stage for other upcoming books in the series.

All in all, a fantastic start to a series. I can’t wait to read Miles’ story, it promises to be even more interesting that David’s, I think.

Excerpt

I sat up suddenly. “Douche bag!”

Kamen and Gould both looked at me.

I stood and hurried to the kitchen to get my laptop. “That’s who was at the club.” I brought the computer over and set it on the coffee table.

“What?” Kamen asked.

“There was this mountain man guy there on Friday.” I fired up the laptop. “I, like, wanted to have his children and shave his face but also feel his mustache sanding my balls and have him teach me how to smoke venison. It was a bounty of contradictions.”

Kamen’s brow knit. “You want to have children?”

“No, not at all; I want to die alone and unloved. Anyway, I thought he looked familiar. It was the Disciplinarian.”

“Ohhh.” Kamen leaned forward as I brought up Fetmatch. “That guy’s legend.”

I logged onto Fet and found the Disciplinarian’s profile. Yep, the picture was Pornstache—rugged, virile, and glowering at the camera with his pale-blue eyes.

“He’s meant to be a total hard-ass, right?” Gould let his leg slide off the table. “You have to, like, bring him the head of a dragon to even be considered for a session.”

I cleared my throat and read the profile statement out loud while Kamen looked over my shoulder.

“‘Obediance,’” I read, “—spelled wrong—‘is what I expect. I see boys by appointment only, and I train them in the art of obedience. I use corporal punishment to do this. Under my tutelage, many boys are transformed. If I select you to do a scene with me, I will expect your absolute submission. I am experienced with a variety of whips, canes, paddles, etc. You will be subject to my rules and my decisions.

“‘I am dominant in all areas of my life, and I do not tolerate disobedience, rudeness, or negative attitude. You are unlikely to find anyone as skilled as I at administering the discipline you need. But know that my training will not be easy.

“‘You must be under 30, in good shape, and able to hold position through a long punishment. You must also be able to think creatively about the ways you will satisfy me.

“‘If you are interested in a session with the Disciplinarian, please fill out the attached questionnaire. Serious inquiries only.’”

Below the profile summary was a six-item questionnaire for potential applicants, as well as requirements for answer length—between three and five sentences—and formatting. Dear Sir was the required salutation, and boy the sign off.

Oh my God. To think I’d wanted this fucker to spank the seat of my fantasy bell-bottoms.

I brought up the questionnaire.

Why do you need to be punished? Were you physically disciplined as a child? How? Are you prepared to surrender complete control to me during a disciplinary session, and to allow me to determine the length and severity of a punishment? To submit to punishments that include: spanking, corner time, mouth soaping, enemas, body scrubbing, writing lines, housework, denial of bathroom privileges, figging, scolding, chastity, forced exercise, and rectal temperature-taking? Do you understand that “punishment” is intended to be unpleasant—no chickening out and safewording? What do you hope to get out of a session? What are your feelings on the outdoors?

“Dave, that totally sounds like your thing,” Kamen said. “All the punishment stuff.”

“Uh, yeah.” I scrolled through the questions again. “Except for the safeword-equals-chickening-out bullshit.”

“Oh, right.”

“What a dick. I can’t believe I wanted to feel his mustache in all my secret places.”

As a follower of the series, I was glad to hear that there was going to be an additional and final story in the series. With Mine, Stacey Kennedy takes us back to Dmitri and Presley, the first couple in the Club Sin series.

Club Sin and its members are facing exposure, leaving Dmitri to find a way to may things right. But while he’s working on a solution to end the threat, he pushes Presley away. Presley is surprised and more than a little hurt that Dmitri is shutting her out at a time when its obvious he needs someone by his side. She thought she had found the perfect partner in Dmitri–in and out of the dungeon–but was it all a lie?

I’ve come to love this series and found Mine to be a great way to bring it to a close. Not only did it take me back to the initial couple, it also gave me a glimpse into how the other couples were holding up. I especially enjoyed seeing the way Presley had come into her own. She stood up for herself even when it hurt to confront some of the uncertainties in her relationship with Dmitri. I was glad she had grown a back bone.

And although I wanted to throttle Dmitri more than once, I appreciated the way the author brought his struggle to the page. Dmitri was loyal, strong and protective but I loved seeing his more vulnerable side. He loved his club and I was glad to see that he loved his sub too. 😉

As expected, Stacey Kennedy brought everything together seamlessly. And she took it even a step further by giving us closure while still laying the ground for a new series. Dungeon’s Key promises to be even hotter than Club Sin and I can’t wait to read more about the four men that she introduced.

“Thank you for that, sir,” she whispered.

He chuckled, slapping her ass. “I suspect those legs might not be working so well at the moment.”

“You’d be right.” She laughed in the sweet way that brought him so much joy. “They don’t.”

He brushed his hand over her face, moving the strands of hair off to see her better. “How was that for you?”

“Amazing. My God!” Her smile was dozy, her eyelids were lowered, and her cheeks were flushed. “You increased the intensity with the whip tonight, didn’t you?”

“I did.” He grinned, loving the glorious twinkle in her eyes. “And you liked it.”

“I sure as hell did.”

He took the measure of her, resting his soft dick against the crease of her bottom. She looked well fucked and satisfied. “I love you, doll.”

“I love you, too.” She lifted up and angled her head to steal a kiss.

Nothing but adoration filled him as he allowed her to take his mouth. He liked that she knew him so well. The closeness they had was the one thing he hadn’t counted on when he lived a bachelor life. There was a difference between a casual submissive and what he had with Presley. She knew when she could take from him and when he’d allow it. Like now, in the afterglow of his orgasm. And she, being a clever woman, used it to her full advantage. She’d often steal kisses, and he thought she liked to because it made her feel special. Only she could do that to him.

As he straightened to remove the spreader bar, he heard a voice next to him say, “I need to speak with you, sir.”

Dmitri turned, and at the shock of the interruption, he snapped, “On your knees, sub!”

The young Club Sin submissive Sarah, who had turned twenty-three a few days ago, dropped to the ground in a heartbeat. Her head was bowed to the ground and her hands were twined together. “Explain yourself,” he growled at her. “And do it now!”

“I’m sorry for interrupting you and Presley, sir.” Her head lifted, revealing terrified brown eyes. “But it’s important.”

Interrupting a scene between a Dom and sub in Club Sin was the greatest offense. Knowing that, Dmitri took consideration over Sarah, spotting the fear in her expression. He suppressed his further reprimand. “What do you need to say, Sarah?”

She lifted her hand, offering him an envelope. “I have something to show you. It can’t wait.”

“Show me.”

She shook her head, looking everywhere but at him. “Not here. Believe me, it’s private.”

Something fearful passed in her expression, raising Dmitri’s alarms. “Sarah, look at me.” When she stared into his eyes, he added in a dry voice, “My cock is soaked with Presley’s cum and is hanging out for all to see. You’ve also just interrupted our scene. Show me whatever you have to. I will not repeat myself again.”

She hesitated, giving Presley a pained look, then turned to Dmitri again. “Okay, sir.” With shaky hands, she opened the envelope and handed Dmitri a stack of pictures.

He kept one hand on Presley’s back, telling her to stay put as he looked at the photos. In that very second, he knew his life would never be the same again.

And that Club Sin was in grave danger.

About the Author

Stacey Kennedy is the USA Today bestselling author of the Club Sin series. Growing up, Stacey’s mind wandered the path less traveled, and that path most often led to love. She has always broken rules, and she continues to feed off emotion—always staying true to her heart. Those traits are now the bones of her stories. She lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, who puts any of the heroes in her books to shame, and their two young children. If she’s not on Mom duty or plugging away at a new story, you’ll find Stacey camping in the summer, hibernating in the winter, and obsessing over Penny Dreadful, Game of Thrones, and Outlander.

Eddie Russell is many things: A wealthy pillar of the community. An outrageous flirt. A doting best friend. A masochist with a kink for brawling with his bedmates. But he is definitely not a man who invites intimacy. His friends are close but few, his lovers rarer still.

When Eddie runs his Mercedes off the road on a hot July afternoon, Wish Carver comes to his aid—and leaves his number in Eddie’s phone. Wish, a road crew worker half Eddie’s age and sexy as sin, seems fascinated by Eddie’s different sides. Mutual attraction and compatible kinks ignite the sheets, but it’s their connection outside the bedroom that Eddie begins to crave.

When the two come down on opposite sides of a local issue, Eddie finds his growing feelings for Wish at odds with his business interests and his devotion to his best friend, local wakeboarding legend Ben Warren. Torn between old loyalties and his new love, Eddie is reluctant to make a choice. But he knows he can’t make Wish wait too long to make up his mind.

Review

5-stars

Phew! I loved Double Up and although I expected the book that would follow to be great, I wasn’t expecting it to be this awesome. Boy was I wrong. Not only was this better in the way the characters related to each other, but it was also hella hotter!

We met Eddie Russell on Double Up as Ben’s flamboyant, in-your-face best friend. He left quite an impression on me then, but it was by reading his story that I ultimately fell in love with his every facet.

At first sight, you wouldn’t put much stock in who he is. He’s honest to a fault, loyal and unapologetic about who he is and what he wants. All this I learned in the previous story, but after finishing his story I have to say that he is so much more than meets the eye. Here’s a man who loves deeply, who yearns for something more and hasn’t allowed himself the chance to pursue it.

Then Wish Carver crosses his path and turns his life upside down–in a good way. Wish is a 24-year old road worker. He’s easy going, charming and kinky as can get. A dirty talker with a heart of gold, he sees something in Eddie that he would like to explore further and he will not be deterred. He’s determined to make Eddie see him for who he is and not the idea Eddie has of him. He may be young, but he’s the ideal man to make Eddie soar.

I loved this story! (I think I said that before, but it bears repeating.)

What I most enjoyed about this story was the way Vanessa North brought Wish and Eddie together. On the surface, Wish and Eddie appear to be complete opposites. Wish is young, Eddie is older. Wish is working class, Eddie is well off financially. Two different individuals, two different upbringings and social classes. The only thing in common–complementary needs of the kinky kind.

But how to build a story around this one shared element and still make it appear believable? Beats me, I just enjoy the end product! But I admire the hell of any author who could bring together two complete opposites while still making it look effortless. Vanessa North did that and so much more. (Fan-girl moment over. Moving on.)

I enjoyed the character development both MCs endured throughout the story. While Eddie hesitated in getting involved in any type of relationship with Wish, he was ultimately helpless in resisting what Wish could provide. He doubted his decision to give in every step of the way until he found himself fully immerse in the very relationship he tried so hard to keep at bay. (Go Eddie!) His journey was a treat to read and I admired the hell out of him simply because he allowed himself the chance to explore something more. Likewise, I admired Wish’s strength of character and ability to look beyond the significant age difference that existed between him and Eddie. Wish was mature beyond his years, something that came in handy when paired up with Eddie, but he still had room for growth and I appreciated the author’s effort of bringing that to the page.

Of course, Eddie and Wish shared an amazing kind of chemistry. You know the one. Intense. Relentless. Overwhelming. I loved it! That very fist encounter alone set the mood for the rest that was to come (pun intended!). I loved the sense of urgency–that desire to have your needs met and f*ck the consequences. It was epic, as evidenced by the amount of highlighted text on my tablet. 😉

With a diverse set of fully developed elements, Vanessa North brought about an unusual kind of romance, but a romance nonetheless. There was the shared need for something ‘more’, the intensity of emotions felt by the characters, the underlying conflict their differences brought about and the political issue that affected them both.

All in all, a fantastic addition to the series. Hot, kinky yet with an undercurrent of sweetness throughout. I couldn’t help but love Wish and Eddie together. I just wished the story would have been longer so I could have enjoyed them a little bit more. Oh well, that’s what re-reads are for.

Excerpt

I can see why he’s a little touchy about my pretentious car; he drives a beat-up old F-150. I give him directions to my house—it’s a god-awful monstrosity of a thing on the lake. I bought it because the price was right, but never got around to remodeling it to something less gaudy and ostentatious. Unlike Ben and Dave’s house, which exudes class and charm, mine screams, Look how much money I have!

I’m not ashamed of the money.

I am a little ashamed of the house. He’s going to think I’m an epic douche.

“So, where are you from, Wish?”

“Minnesota.”

“And now you’re in Florida. Did you get tired of the snow?”

“Mom got sick last winter. My brother was living here already, and he talked her into coming down so he and his wife could take care of her during chemo. She loved it here, so I moved too. No point staying in Minnesota all alone.”

“How’s your mama now?” I hold my breath.

“She’s good. In remission.”

I let out the breath. “I’m glad to hear that. When you said ‘loved’ instead of ‘loves,’ well, I worried.”

“Ha. Well, she doesn’t much care for Florida in July.”

“The heat has a way of making people ornery.” It’s part of what I love about living here: the tension bubbling under the surface is sensual in a primal, earthy way. It gets me so fucking hard.

“What about your dad?”

He grimaces. “Remember what I said about being very Catholic?”

I nod.

“Divorce in a Catholic home is not pretty. We aren’t on speaking terms.”

“I’m sorry.”

He shrugs. “He made his choices. What about you? You from here?”

“Indeed. Born and raised. That’s my house.” I blush as I point to the great big stucco thing with the tiled roof. “You can park in the garage if you want, but I need to enter the code to open it.”

“Okay.” The truck idles in the driveway as I type my password on the touch pad. He pulls into the spot where my Benz usually sits and turns off the engine.

When he gets out of the car, we stare at each other for a long moment. I want to invite him in. I want to climb him like a tree. I want. But he’s so damned young.

“You don’t know me.” He gestures toward the door. “And I can see you have a nice place and maybe you’re second-guessing bringing a virtual stranger here. I get it. Why don’t I go, and then I’ll call you later in the week. Fair warning, I’d like to ask you out on a real date.”

“No.” I shake my head. “It’s not about you being a stranger. I’m trying not to think of you as a corruptible young thing.”

“Here I thought we were going to finish our sandwiches, and all this time you were planning to corrupt me? Eddie S-Class, I do believe you have a dirty mind.”

Oh boy, did I read that wrong. “Oh my gawd.” I cover my face with my hands, peeking at him between my fingers. “I’m so embarrassed.”

“Mmm. I like it. How would you corrupt me? I mean, I know I’m younger than you, but this ain’t my first rodeo. I’m curious. How would you do it?” Okay, maybe not so wrong at all.

“You want me to . . .”

“I want you to tell me, in great detail, the story of my own corruption.” He crosses his arms over his chest, leans back against his truck, and watches me expectantly.

God in heaven, he really means it.

“Let’s go inside.” I reach for the button to close the garage door.

“No.”

“No?”

“No. I want you to tell me out here, in your garage, with the door open, where anyone in the neighborhood who happens to be going for a walk can hear you talking dirty. And, S-Class? Make it dirty.”

I don’t know what it is about him that makes me go for it. Maybe it’s because he came to the hospital to save me from my own boredom. Maybe because of the teasing nickname. Maybe it’s because I haven’t had truly awesome sex in long enough that I’m starting to forget what it’s like.

Temporary insanity.

I take off my suit jacket, and hang it on the never-used coat hook by the door. My tie is next—I toss it to him as I reach for my cufflinks, which go in the pocket of my pants. I unbutton my shirt slowly, never breaking eye contact. Any minute I’m going to take it too far, and he’s going to look out that open garage door and stop me.

But he doesn’t. When I hang the shirt with my jacket and turn back toward him, his gaze drops to my shoulder and chest, which are turning purple and black and a dull red. His eyes widen, and he swallows.

I clear my throat. “I’d start by stripping us both naked. Me first, so you can watch.”

Reaching for the button at the top of my trousers, I spare a moment to press the heel of my hand against my dick and close my eyes against the rush of pleasure.

“Take it out. Show it to me.”

I unzip, pull my cock out, and hold it in one hand like an offering. He examines it for a long time, long enough to make me uneasy, but my semi hardens under his gaze. Finally, he meets my eyes again.

“A dick piercing? I’m feeling a little corrupted already,” he teases. “What would you do next?”

I kick off my shoes, push my pants and briefs down my legs, step out of them, and fold them carefully before setting them aside. I turn around as I take off my socks, and wiggle my ass a little for his viewing pleasure. When I straighten up and face him again, he’s got one hand pressed against his own zipper. If I cross the garage to him, I’ll be naked in plain view of anyone walking by, practically on display. It really turns me on. Who knew my exhibitionist streak ran that deep?

The first step is the hardest—moving from the idea of exhibitionism to the reality of it—but then I find myself smirking as I amble toward him. I hurt from the accident, and I’m a little freaked out, but the captivated expression on his face is like a drug.

I reach for his T-shirt, tugging it up to expose that flat twenty-four-year-old stomach.

When his hand claps down on my bruised shoulder, I hiss sharply, meeting the challenge in his gaze. He squeezes—he didn’t grab it by mistake. I let my eyes roll back in my head as I exhale, waiting for the pain to cede to pleasure.

“You . . . like that, don’t you?” The squeeze becomes a caress as he explores the edges of the still-forming bruise. He digs his fingers in a little under my clavicle and the frisson of delicious agony draws a whimper from my lips.

“Okay, Eddie. This is the point where we go inside and have a talk.”

Kyle’s a natural sub who builds dungeon furniture, yet has no interest in BDSM. It takes a hunky Dom to show him just what he’s been missing.

After Kyle’s partner of five years leaves him for another man on the night of their housewarming party, the shy early thirties carpenter needs to do a serious reassessment of his life in addition to raising some serious cash. With no one else to help him pay the lease on his Los Angeles condo, he worries how he’ll survive. His best friend sets up a meeting with one of the Doms and partners at Kiss of Leather, a gay BDSM Club being built as a premiere destination for those who want the best of the best.

Master Gavin not only wants the best – he demands it. When he meets Kyle, he assumes that part of the builder’s reticence to share anything personal with him must be due to his experiences with an abusive former Master. Not one to back down from a challenge, Gavin determines to break through the walls surrounding the beautiful man he can’t get out of his mind. He’s certain that once he convinces Kyle to sign an initial contract, Kyle might be the first sub to open up his heart.

Misunderstandings and accusations almost destroy everything between them before it has a chance to begin. However, the true obstacle becomes not only whether Kyle will embrace BDSM as a lifestyle, but whether he can handle a fulltime D/s relationship with a big bad scary Dom who’s as sexy as hell.

Review

4 stars

The blurb more than summarizes what this story is about. Hell, the title pretty much states the main focus of this story–Building Bonds.

And that is what takes place in this story.

Morticia Knight is a new to me author and I have to say that I liked what I read. Kyle and Master Gavin were great characters to get to know. I enjoyed Kyle’s journey of self-discovery and the way he allowed himself to explore that side of him regardless of his doubts of the lifestyle.

I admit, I didn’t come to ‘like’ Master Gavin until I got well within the story. I didn’t appreciate his assumptions about Kyle when they first met. Then again, he wasn’t all that far out of range in regards to Kyle’s history, his wants or needs. But that first encounter and his subsequent inner musings really threw me off.

Thankfully, as the story progressed I came to understand where he was coming from. Especially once I realized how much he longed to have a meaningful relationship with his sub. He was an experienced Dom and yearned to have the best of both worlds.

From there everything just fell into place for me. I was glad to see Kyle and Master Gavin on the same page–voicing their needs and desires and talking things through.

I found the writing clear and precise even if at times it made the pace of the story a bit slow in the beginning. But I did come to appreciate the fact that the author took her time bringing these two together. I don’t think it would have worked out for me if Kyle and Master Gavin would have jumped into this immediately. They truly came to common ground and laid the path for a lasting relationship.

Of course, the chemistry between these two helped to convince me that they were a pretty good match. Their time spent together showcased their connection and by the time the story came to a close, I wanted to keep on reading about them!

As the first in a series, Building Bonds did a great job of introducing the cast of characters and setting the ground for stories to come. I will definitely be on the lookout for upcoming releases in the series.

All in all, a hot yet sweet romance between two individuals who truly wanted to have a meaningful relationship and worked together to achieve it with one another.

Excerpt

“I don’t have to be naked, right? You’re sure I won’t have to be naked?” Kyle sucked in a gulp of air. “Of course, if everyone else is and I’m not…Oh God, they’ll all be staring at me. Maybe I should be naked.”

Gavin stepped from the shower and the sight of his stunning frame with his semi-erect cock swaying, rivulets of water trailing down his beautiful skin over his rock hard abs – it made him want to…

“Kyle. Did you hear what I said?”

“Huh?”

Gavin chuckled then advanced on him. He grabbed Kyle by his nape then pulled him in for a deep kiss. He broke their connection, except he kept his hand circled around Kyle’s neck, holding him there, safe.

“No one expects you to be naked, least of all me. You have a wonderful body that I hope you’ll someday allow others to see, but tonight isn’t about pushing your boundaries.”

“Are you kidding me? They’re not being pushed, they’re being trampled.”

“Kyle. Now would be a good time to remember that you need to address me properly at all times.”

“Oh. Sorry. Are you kidding me, Master?”

Gavin narrowed his eyes at him. “We’ll revisit the tone of your voice later. I don’t want to be late.”

Kyle’s eyes widened. He was such a mass of jangled nerves about going to the dungeon owned and run by Gavin’s friend, he hadn’t noticed how his words might’ve come across.

“I am sorry. I’m just a little freaked out, that’s all.”

Gavin placed another light kiss on his lips. “All right. I’ll let it go this time. I’ll also acknowledge that I might be on the verge of trampling your boundaries. But I think you can handle it and I believe you’ll do very, very well. Focus on your desire to make me proud and let everything else fall away.” Gavin stroked Kyle’s cheek with the back of his hand. “Your safewords always apply, no matter where we are, boy.”

Kyle took in another deep breath. “Okay. Thank you. That helped. I just don’t want to, I mean, of course I want to make you proud, but won’t people be expecting you to have someone more, uh, not only experienced, but either super pretty and twinky or hot and-“

“Stop it. Don’t say another word or there will be a punishment and it’ll involve the cock cage with the penis plug I showed you.”

Oh shit.

“Please. Not that.”

“Then remember how stunning I think you are and how angry it makes me that you would denigrate my beautiful boy.” Gavin pulled him close, nuzzling him behind his ear, placing soft kisses on his skin. “I want only you.”

Simon is jaded. His bookstore is failing, his personal life is nonexistent, and he’s tired of the local scene. He’s desperate for a change, and hopes to find it at Escape, the hot new BDSM club in town.

What he finds there is Gavin. One look at the sexy submissive is all he needs to know that his trip to Escape was the right decision. And their night of no-holds-barred kinky sex feels like only the beginning . . . until his promising new sub vanishes with the dawn.

Then Gavin walks through the door of Simon’s bookstore—for business, not pleasure. To both of their surprise, he’s the consultant Simon hired to help save the store. As they work together, Simon realizes that he might have another shot at happiness, if only he can convince Gavin that he’s worth sticking around for.

Simon is out of sorts. His business is failing, his love life none existent. But most of all, he can’t seem to find a sub to satisfy him. He wants the best of both worlds–the kink and the connection. He’s just about to give up when his cousin hands him the number of the new club in town. With nothing to lose and with a need to unwind, Simon heads out to Escape.

Gavin’s past has kept him from the BDSM lifestyle for three years. He’s hesitant about getting into it again fearsome of the memories it will bring, but the time has come for him to move on. Little does he know that with this visit to Escape will come to mean to him.

For just over a 100 pages of content, The Dom Around the Corner has the right amount of elements to make it a significant read. It has the right amount of emotions without the angst, some humor and some very smexy scenes. But what truly made it special for me, was the journey of the characters throughout.

Simon and Gavin were great characters to get to know. I loved that Simon yearned for something more in a sub than the shared kink. This had me anticipating what would develop with Gavin as the story progressed. I would have loved to have seen them interact more with each other during their time out of scene, but in all honesty I don’t think it took away from the story. Christine d’Abo made damn sure that the reader could experience the connection these two shared–in and out of scene. With every stolen touch, hidden look or slight tremor that connection skyrocketed. I loved it!

There’s not much that I can say without giving too much away, but if you take anything from this review let it be my recommendation for you to give this story a try. It was a fantastic mix of short, sweet and sexy!

Laurence Dalziel is worn down and washed up, and for him, the BDSM scene is all played out. Six years on from his last relationship, he’s pushing forty and tired of going through the motions of submission.

Then he meets Toby Finch. Nineteen years old. Fearless, fierce, and vulnerable. Everything Laurie can’t remember being.

The problem is, while Laurie will surrender his body, he won’t surrender his heart. Because Toby is too young, too intense, too easy to hurt. And what they have—no matter how right it feels—can’t last. It can’t mean anything.

Review

4 stars

As a follower of the series, I was curious to read this installment by Katee Robert. I loved the previous books by Tessa Bailey so I was anticipating starting this one. I am happy to say that it was everything I was expecting and then some.

Ridley and Garrett were involved when they were younger, but went their separate ways when Garrett betrayed her and left to join the military. Although they’ve seen each other throughout the years, they’ve managed to effectively ignore each other. Or so they want everyone to belief.

What I liked most about this story was that although Ridley and Garrett had a previous connection, the author went through the effort of establishing that connection on the page in the present time. Through sexy dialogue and entertaining bickering, Katee Robert not only showed how deeply the attraction between these two ran but how deeply connected they were.

I especially liked that she kept the intensity of the BDSM scenes throughout the story. From that very first scene where neither one knew who the other was all through to the very end, Katee Robert brought the heat. And what’s more she managed to bring a vast range of emotions along with it.

I appreciated having the chance to experience both Ridley and Garrett’s doubts and hesitations. I came to understand why it had not worked out initially and was cheering them on to get their act together once more.

Keep in mind that although this is the third book in the Serve series it can be read as a stand alone. But don’t let that stop you from checking out the other titles in the series, they are well worth the time.

All in all, a fabulous addition to the Serve series. One where the passion was intense and the emotions made themselves known.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

Quick Q&A

Favorite subject in school? Why?

Literature was definitely my favorite, and it was because we discussed the classics like William Shakespeare, Nathaniel Hale, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Langston Hughes, Emily Bronte, Jane Austen, Chaucer, Zora Neale Hurston, etc. I usually spent so much time reading the stories in the book that I would forget to do the assignments, though. LOL. I drove my teachers crazy.

If you could go anywhere, all expenses paid, where would you go?

Italy. But not to one of the tourist spots. I want to go to a little out of the way town, steeped in history, and spend time with the locals. I want to find my birth mother. I’m way too Italian at heart not to have been given up at birth by an Italian woman who got pregnant from a black man. I want to find her. LOL. No, seriously. Italy. I love the culture, the food, the language, the music. Everything. I’d love to go there.

What bores you in a book?

The constant misunderstandings in contemporaries. LOL. I can understand one or two, they happen in a new relationship, but if it’s one of those books where every time you turn around someone’s running away because of a misunderstanding, I’m liable to put the book down and walk away. Or actually, I have much more violent reactions, my friend Taylor Law has stopped me more than once from throwing my iPad across the room.

Excerpt

“How in the world did you make us being friends sound so dirty?” Julian asked.

Miguel chuckled. “Oh that’s easy. I can make anything sound dirty. It’s all about lowering my voice and making everything you say the most seductive thing you’ve ever uttered.”

Julian’s eyebrows rose. “Oh really? Prove it.”

Miguel leaned forward, ignoring the people walking past them, juggling their carry-ons, children, friends and spouses as they exited the plane. He lowered his voice and stared at Julian’s groin, his brain filling with images of Julian’s cock encaged in a cock ring, his body straining against restraints, his skin glistening with sweat as he pleaded with Miguel to let him come.

“Voting for a presidential candidate is one of the best things you can do as an American, because it guarantees that your voice is heard, even when it doesn’t feel like it. It’s a time when you can take control, assert your independence and make sure that you have someone in office who cares about what you care about.” He could hear how seductive his voice sounded and if the darkening of Julian’s eyes was any indication, the man was turned on—though more by the tenor of Miguel’s voice than his actual words. “You should think about voting, Julian,” he said, rolling the younger man’s name around in his mouth like a fine wine. “Enclosing yourself in a booth and either punching a hole or touching a screen and choosing who the head of the country is going to be.”

Julian was panting, his pink lips parted as he stared at Miguel. “Holy fuck,” he croaked out. “That was the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard about the most boring subject in the world.”
