I knelt on the floor, adrenaline pumping through me like it did when I was on stage or in a spotlight. I’d never liked this feeling when I did theater productions, which was why I wasn’t an aspiring actress like Gwen. I was too afraid of messing up in front of everyone.

But here I had an audience of one. One person whose opinion mattered.

I couldn’t remember where the zipper was.

“Here. I’ll start,” Axel said. He stripped off his own top in one smooth motion and then lay back down as if he were posing for a portrait entitled Royal Pasha in Repose.  He gestured again to spur me.

Right. There was a tiny clasp hidden at one hip, and then the zipper ran up one side. I undid the zipper and peeled the gown down like white magnolia petals all around me.

“Pretty,” he said, the tip of his tongue exploring his upper lip.

My nipples tightened as if that tongue were touching them.

“Pretty breasts,” he added, as if he noticed. Of course he noticed. “How sensitive are they?”

“I don’t really have a point of comparison.”

“Show me, then. Run your fingers over them lightly, not the nipple, just the skin.”

My cheeks flushed so suddenly it felt almost like sunburn. I’d never performed for a guy before. My fingers were trembling slightly with excitement as I made light circles with my middle fingers around the outside of my breasts. Was this what he wanted me to do?

“Look down,” he said. “Watch your nipples.”

I saw they were crinkling up and standing out like buttons.

“Keep circling, don’t touch them yet.”

“Yes, sir,” I whispered.

“Mm, ‘sir.’ That has a nice sound to it.” He sat up. “Because of the sweet way you said the word.”

I blushed harder. “Sir” had been a guess on my part. This was getting more and more like an improv scene all the time. “Do you like it when I call you ‘sir’?”

“Yes. But why don’t you call me by my name? But you can only call me by my name when you mean it like that.” He moved behind me then, running his hands over my stomach and purring into my ear. “Only when by saying it you mean ‘man who owns my body and my pleasure.’ Say it.”

“A-Axel,” I stuttered.

One of his hands slid down my abdomen under the gathered waist of the gown. “You don’t sound very sure of that.” A finger slid right over my pubic bone but stopped short of my clit. “Who am I?”

“Axel,” I tried again.

“Who?”

The man who owns my body and my pleasure. I leaned back against him, touching my tongue to the back of my teeth as I sucked in a breath. “Axel,” I breathed.

“That’s it,” he said, and rewarded me with a long stroke over my clit.

I was copiously wet and my clit throbbed under his touch, as if being neglected before had made it all the more desperate for contact.

“Last chance to take your gown off before I ruin it,” he whispered in my ear as his finger switched to circling my clit.

“Don’t stop,” I answered, my belly quivering. “Please don’t stop.”

Review

4 stars

Slow Satisfaction picks up right where Slow Seduction left off. We find Karina returning home to her family to care for her mother where she spends quality time with her sister Jill and lets out some steam about her problems in her relationship with James.

James is back and more determined than ever to make things work with Karina once and for all. He’s vowed to reveal his secrets to her and prmises to let her in completely. Although it’s a slow process, he does his best to keep his promise.

I loved this story. It was so great to have James in the picture again. Karina and James are great together and they complement each other. I enjoyed experiencing their connection on the page and seeing them unleash the passion they held for one another. Their chemistry continued to be off-the-charts HOT, but it was those moments when their emotions got the better of them and they made themselves vulnerable that stuck with me through the end.

This time around Cecilia Tan didn’t pull any punches in bringing the emotions to the page. The range of emotions Karina and James experienced, both as individuals and as a couple, was what made this such an enticing read.

I loved the fact that I got to know James inside and out–the performer, the man, the lover. His every persona became an open book and I devoured it all. Karina did her share of growing up too. She found patience from within when it came time to listen to James’ secrets, courage to face those secrets and the threats to her relationship and strength to stand up for herself and for what she wanted out of a relationship.

All in all, a great conclusion to James and Karina’s journey that was at times emotional, intense and a whole lot of sexy.

“I have a proposal for you.”

“I’m all ears.”

“I don’t want to only tell you about my life, Karina. I want you to join it. Be a part of it. That means being a part of what’s happening in Las Vegas.”

“What do you mean by ‘be a part of it’?”

“Answer me a question first. What’s happening with your university now?”

“I have to speak to the dean. Best case scenario, they accept my thesis as is, rubber stamp me with a PhD, and tell me to get the hell out. Worst case scenario, they make me start over with a new advisor, writing a new thesis. Honestly, if that’s what they want . . . I don’t know if it’ll be worth jumping through those hoops. If other opportunities are beckoning me, I don’t have a lot of incentive to go back. Other than pride and not wanting to have wasted five years of my life.”

Not to mention the student loan money.

“I see. Well, I am hoping you might be able to defer whatever might occur there for another semester so you can join me in the performance.”

“You mean—”

“As a dancer.”

I shook my head instantly. “I can’t measure up to a troupe of professionals. I’ll look ridiculous.”

“I assure you you’re wrong about that. Well, if the performance were tomorrow, maybe. But we have a few months, Karina, and I’ll be expecting you to work with a trainer every day. I need to get back in shape myself.” He stretched one arm toward the far window and unfurled his hand elegantly, probably thinking about dance exercises. “I haven’t danced or sung since the night we met.”

“Have you missed it?”

“I have, a little. I don’t miss the grind, though. I don’t miss having to keep up the facade all the time. I never realized how exhausting it was until I stopped.” He leaned over to kiss me on the cheek. “I’m an incredibly lucky bastard.”

“Are you?”

“Yes, because if I had let my guard down for anyone but you, it would have ended in a ball of flames.”

“It nearly did anyway.”

“But it didn’t, because of you. Because of the wonderfulness of you. You’re special, Karina.” He offered me the bottle again and I took another sip. “How much longer do you think you’ll be in Ohio?”

“I’m not sure. My aunt Tera called today to announce she’s showing up tomorrow to stay for two weeks. If that’s true, I won’t have to stay.” I did have to get back to the city. To deal with my landlord and the university and who knew what else.

James was looking at me thoughtfully.

“What? What is it?”

He smiled. “I’m just noticing how many strong, independent women you seem to have in your life.”

“Well, I don’t know if I’d count my mother as strong . . . though it seems like she picked up a backbone in the hospital!”

“She raised you and your siblings on her own. I’d say she can probably lay claim to independence if she wants.”

“True. And her opinions are never weak. Those are always quite strong.” I glanced in the direction of the house. “I guess I should be getting back.”

“Well, if you think you’ll be staying more than a few days, I’ll contract a dance trainer for you here, to start getting ready for the performances.” He folded one of my hands into his. “That is, if you agree to my proposal. You still haven’t said yes.”

Of course he would notice that. “I think it’s questionable I’m good enough to get on stage with you. Maybe you ought to have someone besides yourself look at me. I don’t think you’re exactly an impartial judge.”

“And you’re far more talented than you think. How about this? We’ll hold an audition for

principal dancer. I won’t tell the judges who you are. We’ll let them give their opinions. The final decision will still be up to me, of course, but you can get an honest evaluation of where you stand in relation to others. If they think you look ridiculous, they’ll say so without hesitation.”

I slipped my shoes on. “All right. When?”

“Let’s say in a month. That’ll give you time to prepare.”

“Okay. I mean, yes. That sounds like a plan.” I slipped my arms around his neck and kissed him. “Now, are you and Stefan planning to sit out here all night?”

“I defer to Stefan on our security plans. If there is any hint of trouble, though, promise me, Karina, that you’ll contact us immediately.”

“Yes, of course.”

“Good. Then you should probably sneak back into the house.”

I kissed him on the forehead and grinned. “You know, I never did this when I was a teenager.”

“Did what?”

“Sneak out of the house after my mother was asleep to have sex in a guy’s car.” I kissed him on the mouth then. “Something tells me it was worth the wait.”

Slow Surrender (Struck by Lightning #1) by Cecilia Tan

Slow SurrenderRating: 4.25 stars

Publisher: Forever (August 6, 2013)

Available at: Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis: He pushes her sexual boundaries . . .

From the moment waitress Karina meets him in a New York bar, she knows James is different. Daring. Dominating. Though he hides his true identity from her, the mysterious, wealthy businessman anticipates her every desire and fulfills her secret fantasies. Awakened by his touch, Karina discovers a wild side she hadn’t known existed and nothing is off limits.

She aches for more . . .

What begins as an erotic game soon escalates to a power play that blurs the line between pleasure and pain. Even as she capitulates to James’s sensual demands, Karina craves more. She wants his heart, his soul. She wants his love . . . and she’ll break all the rules to get it.

Review: Karina is a grad student who is trying to find herself. She’s always thought that something was missing in her life and was surprised to find it at the hands of a mysterious stranger. What started as a game developed into something more, where Karina started shedding the layers of herself that kept her back from finding pleasure.

James is a mystery. He’s handsome, sexy as hell and filthy rich. He brings Karina pleasure in the most unexpected of ways while still holding himself back. He never demands more than what he knows she could give and only takes her pleasure as payment. He has walls. Walls that start to crumble as soon as he meets Karina. Now the question remains, will he ever let go and open himself fully to her?

This is the first book by Cecilia Tan that I’ve read and I am impressed. She managed to bring together two complex characters with hot-as-hell chemistry and made them seen real.

I liked Karina a lot. She came across as very real with her common insecurities, indecisions and approach to life. I could easily relate to her and understand why she jumped at the chance to play with this handsome stranger.

Now, James I loved! He was not only sexy and handsome, but he had that quiet, mysterious air about him that intrigued the hell out of me. But what I loved the most was the way he treated Karina. He was caring, giving and understanding. Yes, he kept some things about himself a secret but to me it just added to his appeal.

I enjoyed the way the author went about bringing these two together. Through passion-filled encounters that ranged from the most innocent to the most kinky and strange, their chemistry never wavered. In any case, it only seemed to grow deeper. Add to that the connection that was developing between them and I was a goner.

“Mine,” I whispered, feeling the twitch and throb that was probably him ejaculating inside me. “My lover. My partner. My James.”

It was interesting to see how Karina grew into herself. She didn’t develop leaps and bounds, but what development she went through felt real. She accepted herself much more and learned to let go of some of the things that were holding her back. James did some developing too. Throughout the story you could catch glimpses of what he kept hidden and what Karina could only bring out of him.

“It’s time you understood, Karina, that you truly, truly make me naked before you.”

Although the pace of the story dragged in places and the whole concept of “rich man seduces young woman” has been done before, I believe that the author brought a great spin to the whole concept by bringing a distinctive set of characters and a whole range of lust-filled encounters that focused solely on developing their trust and their connection. Yes, Karina is a young woman in college and James is a rich man with a secret, but there was nothing over-the-top in their getting together. Their interactions were honest, funny and revealing, which made me want to cheer them on and know more about them and how it would all play out.

Of course, the sex was unbelievably hot! James gave Karina his all in that department and let me tell you that it made for a very enjoyable read. Man, the things he could come with! *shivers* And that last scene? Lord, have mercy!

Anyway, my only complaint was the cliffhanger and that I have to wait until January for the next book. As the first book in the Struck by Lightning series, Slow Surrender was a scorching hot little read with great potential. I can’t wait to read more in Slow Seduction.

I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.
