Skye is ready to move forward in her life–especially now that she has ended things with her boyfriend. Even though she’s been in the spotlight as the daughter’s mayor, she wants to weave her own path career-wise, so she packs up her things, moves from her parent’s house and starts a job as an assistant. Two weeks in the job and she’s loving it. All that’s left now is to meet her boss and hope he’s as great as everyone’s said he is.

And great he is! Handsome, confident and with a great head for business, Landon is the very man she can’t resist but the one she must stay away from.

Landon doesn’t ‘ink his pen in the company’s fountain’ but he can’t deny that Skye pushes all his lust-buttons and then some. Regardless, his main focus is expanding his business and he needs his assistant to help make it happen since he’s seen how her well-practiced charm has paid off.

But fate is a sneaky bitch and won’t let them go about their ‘business’ without smudging some of that company ink after hours.

Elisabeth Grace does it again! With interesting and complex characters that complemented each other both personally and business-wise, she managed to bring about a touching yet sexy read that kept me reading in one sitting.

I have to say, I loved Landon. Sexy, confident and smart he had all the attributes that made for a great lead. Add to that the fact that he was caring and understanding and I could not resist my swooning.

Good thing too that I liked Skye as a partner for him. I felt like I could relate to her instantly because although she was brought up in the limelight and with money, she was down-to-earth, hard working and had great integrity. What I liked most about her was that she was not selfish. Underneath all that composed exterior laid a heart of gold with needs and dreams just as any woman out there.

And don’t even get me started on chemistry! Pffft, that first encounter alone was H-O-T! Whenever those two got together? *fans herself*. But that’s as much as I will say about that. You just need to take my word for it or experience it for yourself.

The plus side to that chemistry was the connection Landon and Skye shared. Although subtle initially, their connection grew as the story progressed. Especially since they spent so much time together. Hell, even their business-related interactions were interesting!

Although this is the second book in the Limelight series I have to point out that it can be read as a stand alone. Its main focus is the developing connection between Skye and Landon and the obstacles they must overcome to be together.

All in all, a fantastic romantic story with well-rounded characters, lust abound and enough emotions to make it all worthwhile.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

His only focus is baseball, but he can’t forget the girl he saved on Valentine’s Day…

At 22, Lincoln Presley’s star is on the rise—about to finish at Stanford and expected to be taken early in Major League Baseball’s upcoming draft—his cousin’s party serves as a welcome distraction. But then, he sees the girl from Valentine’s Day that he saved from that horrific car accident and can’t quite hide his disappointment when she appears to look right through him and not remember him at all. He vows to learn her name at least before he leaves. What’s the harm in getting to know this girl? What’s the worst that can happen?

They share this incredible connection, but fate soon tests these star-crossed lovers in all kinds of ways…

4 stars

Okay, so here goes. Please bare with me while I try to give you as much information about this story without giving too much away or influence you in any way that will detract you from reading it.

I’m good with list, so let’s try that.

  • There was tragedy and heartbrake, lies, deception and pain.

“You can’t really hear heartbreak. It is remarkably silent but excruciating all the same.”

  • The characters were complex, their issues more than they could handle together, even heavier when they were apart.

“Here’s the truth: I am the female version of a heartbreaker. The one that everyone says is too dedicated to ballet, too self-involved to ever care about anyone else besides herself. I’m the rebel. The bad twin. I am Tally—the loner, the party of one. The love and leave ‘em prototype. Heartless. That is me. I have no time for romance, flowers, or relationships. I like one-night stands with plenty of sex and no promises of a future. I like the lies I tell. I’m comfortable in telling them…most of the time. This is me.”

  • Your emotions are played with as if you were a drum – from sympathy to hope. Rinse. Repeat.

“The ending is coming. I can feel it. I don’t know if I can take it this time. But then again, I say that every time and yet, every time I take it. And, I come back to her again for more. I will take whatever time I can get with her. I will do that for a lifetime. I will. I know that much about myself. She is my water. I can never get enough of her, and it appears that I will die trying to love her, to keep her, to hold her with me, even though our time together seems to evaporate so swiftly. It slips through our fingers so damn fast that we don’t even have time to savor it when we’re together.”

  • 400+ pages that will have you tapping the hell out of your device, wanting to throw it against a wall, screaming in frustration, hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel and crying your eyes out.

“I stand still for a long time, holding the note, and let it all sink in. Her leaving is almost palpable like a gale-force wind that’s rolled into my life in the span of a single evening and left behind all this incalculable destruction, both inside and out. Yes, the tempest has passed, but the air around me feels different. I can hardly breathe. Nothing is the same without her. As the lone survivor of her particular storm, I begin to wonder just exactly what I’m supposed to do now.”

  • Did I enjoy it? I don’t think this was story to be solely enjoyed, it was more of a story to be felt. It required the reader’s attention, it tugged at your heartstrings and left you overwhelmed.

“Upon deep reflection, I realize that I must be at the edge of life’s abyss. This is me. All there is left of me; and yet, I’m looking over and contemplating its meaning on whether to jump or stay. I’m not sure this feeling for Tally Landon is made up of love any more than it is of hate. This must be a kind of purgatory—the in-between place—because these pervasive feelings of rage and passion for Tally are equalized and actually co-mingle together—like fire and water—each ready to extinguish the other. I’ve come to accept the truth. There may be nothing left for us. It could go either way.”

  • The synopsis tells you what you need to know.
  • This was not an easy story to get through.
  • The pace is slow but with a purpose.
  • My telling you anything else would only lead to spoilers. But if there is one thing that I can tell you is that it is a story worth reading, heart-wrenching emotions and all.
  • I hope you decide to take it for a ride.

Ellie is just trying to make something of her life, but that damn video is making it hard for her to move forward. Ever since it went viral, Ellie has been struggling, but she is a strong woman who will not let that video rule her life. So biting back her frustration, or at least trying to, she heads out to fulfill one of the many tasks her boss has handed to her. Sweaty and exasperated by her work situation she arrives at her destination. Little does she know how affected her life will be by the person inside.

Mason just wants to relax before his next tour. Something has been missing from his life, but he can’t exactly pinpoint what it is that’s lacking. He has worked hard to get to where he is, so he wants nothing more than to get over this funk that has him wondering if what he has made of himself is enough in his life at the moment. If it all goes according to plan, he will be relaxed enough to return back to work after his month of vacation is over. But fate has other plans at work – in the form of a stubborn young woman that pushes all his buttons and brings all sorts of feelings out in him.

This was such a refreshing and captivating read. Elisabeth Grace did an amazing job in drawing me into the story by bringing to the front the connection Mason and Ellie encountered on their first meeting. From the start, I felt a liking to Ellie. Although she was strong and determined she had a vulnerability we have all felt at one point or another in our lives. I connected to her easily, so seeing her all flustered over Mason and conflicted about the feelings he brought out in him was an interesting sight to see.

Unlike other stories involving celebrities falling for a ‘normal’ individual, this one played out in a more realistic way. I could believe the way they met and how they ended up spending their time together, which helped me to want to cheer them on. I enjoyed their interactions and the way the author went about developing their initial connection. Their exchanges were honest, funny and flirtatious and I enjoyed them thoroughly.

Their chemistry was great too. I enjoyed them together especially the sexual tension that hovered over them in the beginning. After that first encounter, their unions just kept getting better especially after their emotions came in to play.

Although not an overtly angsty read, the story had enough emotions to satisfy my needs. From the initial lust to the doubts that arose from both Mason and Ellie all through the heartbreak of betrayal and the regret over mistakes made, the portrayal and the timing of the emotions were spot on. I caught myself sighing, laughing and sniffling at one time or another. Just the way I like it!

As the first book in the Limelight series, Rumor Has It made for a great start to a series. All in all, a surprisingly good read with intriguing characters, an interesting storyline and a well developed connection between Mason and Ellie.

Synopsis

*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*

A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

Review

Elise goes through life accepting what other people think of her. She doesn’t seem affected by it, but underneath it all she is. And it isn’t until Ryder walked into her life that she starts to realize that maybe she could leave her past behind and move on. This is not an easy feat for her when she’s always felt second best and unworthy. But with Ryder’s presence and some time, she comes into herself.

I would love to say that this story was completely enjoyable to me but I cannot. There were some elements to the story I did not understand and some characters I just could not stand.

However, I do have to commend the author, Rachael Wade, for bringing forth a different type of love story where the heroine truly does move on from her past and grows as an individual without having to apologize for her past. This was not an easy story for me to get through since so many times throughout the story I wanted to throttle the heroine and shake some sense into her. Thankfully, the author allowed Elise’s emotions about her situation and her actions to come clearly across the page, which helped me connect to her more easily and invest myself in her story.

I liked that Elise didn’t fall easily to Ryder’s charms. He had to work through the walls Elise had erected around herself to be able to get to her and that made it a more enjoyable read for me. Of course there was sex, but at least the sexual encounters between Ryder and Elise gave a glimpse of the connection that was developing between them. I could see how affected she was by the emotions Ryder was awakening in her and understood why she hesitated in giving into him.

Half the book I spent exasperated with Elise and the other half I was cheering her on to get her crap together. I admired her tenacity and her refusal to apologize for things past, but mostly I enjoyed watching her embrace her happiness. I believe Ryder brought out on the best on her and she reciprocated the action for him. I would have loved to get Ryder’s side of the story, but this was mainly Elise’s journey in finding her true self, so I could easily overlook that.

My only complaint was the abundance of horrible characters and the whole event that took place towards the end of the story. I think the story could have worked better without the drama and conflict. Other that that, I think that the author did a great job in the execution of the concept as it pertains to Elise’s struggle with herself and the added romance and emotions rounded it up nicely.

All in all, an enjoyable read.

Synopsis

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when they must decide which road leads to personal happiness. For Dylan Silver, this is that moment…

For the past twenty-two-years, Dylan has been living in her parents’ carefully crafted world, always putting her own dreams on hold to play the role of a dutiful daughter.

So when her best friend coaxes her into a winter getaway to a mountain cabin, she sees it as a chance to forget about the responsibilities waiting for her at home. At least for a little while.

But then her past catches up to her—in the form of sexy snowboarder, Sawyer Carter.

Six years ago, Dylan bid goodbye to the only boy she ever truly loved. Now he’s standing right in front of her, bringing up bittersweet memories and igniting suppressed desires as he dares her to be the person she has always wanted to be.

Dylan and Sawyer’s unexpected meeting is a second chance, but will a girl who doesn’t believe in fate and taking risks be able to overcome her fears of losing control and finally embrace the life she desperately wants?

Only one thing is certain: after a week in Whistler, Dylan’s world will never be the same.

Review

4 stars

Dylan is following her life plan, or that of her parents. She’s still undecided on that one. But what she is completely sure about is that she never forgot about the one who got away. Her best friend through childhood and the boy she fell in love way back when. So when she encounters him again, she is both elated and scared. Happy because he’s still the boy she fell in love with even with his slight hard edges and scared of the feelings he brings out on her.

I loved this story. Victoria Green did an amazing job of bringing Dylan and Sawyer’s story to the page. I enjoyed getting to know Dylan, her quirks, fears and ambitions. She was determined to do what was right, but still wanted to be true to who she was. Her conflicting emotions felt real and made it easy for me to connect to her. I loved watching her with Sawyer, her true self came out to play and seeing them together made for an enjoyable read.

Of course they had chemistry, but it was the emotional interactions, those tender moments when they were getting to know each other again that truly did it for me. I loved their banter and the bond they had between them. I appreciated how the author went out of her way to show the reader how deep the bond between Dylan and Sawyer was and I loved watching as it grew and strengthened while the story progressed.

This was not an overtly emotional read, but the emotions were there and they were heartfelt and appropriate. I especially enjoyed the humor and conflicting emotions the secondary characters added to the story. Dylan’s interactions with her best friend showed her witty, charming and loyal side while her interactions with her brother and family showed the conflicted feelings of a woman trying to break free and be herself.

All in all, a wonderful ‘second chance’ love story about embracing your true self and making your own way in an uncertain world with the one person you are most connected to.

Review

2-stars

1.75 stars (rounded up because of the concept)

Hmmm, this was such a hard read for me because I really, really wanted to like this book. I thought that the concept would make for an interesting read and although some aspects of the story did, the story as a whole did not meet my expectations.

What Didn’t Work for me

1. Sydney’s rambling thoughts – the girl could go on and on about how much she wanted Evan. And really, do I need a play by play of her taking her final exams? Er, NO!

2. Too many tragedies, but none were dealt with appropriately – In the beginning, I was intrigued by what Sydney went through and felt for her for that tragic accident, but other than to preach about the dangers of drinking and driving, she never did anything about it. Then why make it a part of the story at all? I still can’t see what that had to do with Evan and Sydney’s story. Did I miss something?

Melanie’s death – nobody’s heard from her, nobody bothers to look for her. It’s  incomprehensible!!! How can a person be so self-centered that she doesn’t notice her best friend is nowhere to be found? But of course, then she feels guilty about it. Am I supposed to feel some sympathy for her? I don’t think so.

Then there’s Melanie’s sister. Why introduce her at all? Why make Sydney and Evan’s story more complicated? It didn’t make sense at all to me before Michelle arrived, so having her there in the middle of it only served to make a mess of a story even messier. Whatever interest I had in the outcome of the relationship diminished as both Sydney and Evan lost what little affection they had gained from me.

2. Too much of the romance not enough of the development of it on the page – so we know that Evan and Sydney were friends and spend some time together before Melanie died. But how do we get from their to declarations of love? I know it was implied that Evan and Sydney spent a lot of time together as ‘friends’ after he returned to LA, but I never got to see it. How am I supposed to invest myself in their relationship if I can’t see their connection grow deeper? I’m sorry, i don’t work that way. I need to see them interact, show some emotion other than lust and fight for what they have. Sadly, none of those things happened.

3. Not enough growth of character for either Sydney or Evan – in the first half of the book I didn’t judge Sydney or Evan too much. But once Melanie died I truly took notice of them and was expecting them to mature and show some deeper emotion. Neither of that happened though. Sydney continued to be all about Sydney and Evan continued to be his elusive self. I can say with certainty that I know next to nothing about these characters.

The blurb was what initially caught my attention and why I had expected this story to be so good. After reading the story I can safely say that the blurb is misleading.

But when Melanie tragically dies after a night of wild partying, Sydney and Evan turn to each other in a time of intense grief. And it doesn’t take long for their close friendship to blossom into something more.

First of all, they did not turn to each other in their time of need. Evan spent a month in NY after the funeral and Sydney stayed in LA with Lukas. Furthermore, there was no ‘intense grief’ in sight. Neither of them grieved for Melanie.

Unfortunately for Sydney, secrets from the past soon put her relationship with Evan to the test.

Secrets? As in more than one? The ‘secret’ was anti-climatic and if you paid attention to the story you already knew some of it anyway. And what test? She found out and  they had an accident. She’s in the hospital. She slaps him and when he starts to leave she calls him back and the story ends.

Pfft!

I feel like the story should’ve been cut to those events that truly mattered and focused more on showing the depth of the connection between Evan and Sydney, especially since they decided to pursue a relationship after Melanie’s death. I like the sex as much as the next gal, but not if I can’t feel connected to the characters or see more of a bond between them. I think that is my biggest complain.

This book had great potential and I’m sorry that it didn’t hold up to my expectations but the characters and their relationship truly lacked the depth that the story needed for me to invest myself in it.

*I received this title in exchange of my honest opinion.

Review

4 stars

Wow! This story had a little of everything and some that I could’ve done without.

Rowdy and Skylar were first loves when they were teenagers until Skylar disappeared without a word at a time when Rowdy needed her the most. When Skylar returns home she knows that things can’t be picked up from where they were left up, but she had never imagined that her sweet Rowdy would transform into a cold, man-slut. Of course, it is all a front and the walls Rowdy has kept in place start to crumble as soon as he lays eyes on Skylar again.

So yes, there’s angst and drama between Skylar and Rowdy but they soon come to an understanding to try to mend what was broken between them – mainly trust. Their connection was already established but the author made sure to strengthen it as the story progressed. Needless to say that their chemistry was HOT! That first kiss alone after so many years apart was something else.

But in comes Anna and boy is that chick crazy! She’s determined to keep them apart and make Rowdy’s hers.

And here is where my only problem lies. Even though some of the events that transpire where Anna’s concerned were interesting and kept me guessing, some of them were too over-the-top for me to get into. I understood that the girl had problems, but it was too much.

That said, I thought that Rowdy and Skylar’s second chance at love story was fantastic. Their lives were not easy and the things they had to face truly showed their characters as both individuals and as a couple.

All in all, a sweet, romantic story about true love and overcoming the obstacles thrown at you so you can start living your happily ever after.

Excerpt

We stood behind a pair of palm trees, which hid us from the main path, and any potential students walking by. We were not just hidden, though; we were totally alone.

It was my cue to walk over to the main door and head inside, but my feet didn’t budge. I really, really didn’t want this night to end.

“So did you want to meet up again tomorrow and do some studying, or…” My words trailed off, when Evan took my hand. He stepped closer to me.

“Your hand is so cold,” he said.

I stared at his neck for a moment—that’s where my eye level was. I was afraid to look up. I was terrified, and crazy fucking excited. I breathed in, through my nose. He smelled of cinnamon, of fresh-baked snickerdoodle cookies.

“I must be cold blooded,” I said, and finally gazed into his eyes.

He smiled, and brought both his hands up to my shoulders.

“Evan?” I turned away. “What are you doing?”

He leaned his head down and brushed his lips against my cheek. His mouth hovered over my ear. “Don’t tell me you’ve never thought about it.” Then he kissed me, lightly, on my neck.

My knees buckled. If Evan hadn’t been pushed up so close to me, I would have collapsed to the ground.

“Oh my God… Evan.”

He wrapped his arm around my back, and pulled me even closer.

I wanted this. I wanted this so much. I’d been dreaming about it since the moment I first laid eyes on him, way back in English 101, freshman year.

But it didn’t feel right. Not with my roommate still in the picture. Not with their anniversary just days away. I wanted Evan completely, but not like this.

He stared into my eyes. Touched his fingers against my chest.

“Evan…” I said.

He smiled, and moved his lips toward mine. “Sydney…”

I pulled away. A small raindrop touched the top of my head. “Whoa, what?” I looked up. “Did you just feel that?”

“Huh? Feel what?”

“I think it’s…” I didn’t even have to finish my sentence. The rain started coming down hard, and fast.

“Oh crap,” Evan said.

“Run!” I shouted, and we both raced around the trees, over to the front of McCarthy Hall.

The rain pelted the ground so hard that by the time I found cover under the canopy, I was drenched with rain from head to toe. Evan joined me at my side, just as soaked as I was. I pointed at him, and we both started laughing.

“I guess Melanie was right, after all,” I said.

He nodded, as he patted his hands against his ruined jacket and jeans. “Yeah, I guess she was.” He reached his hand toward mine again, but he didn’t try to touch it. He had to know as well as I did that our little moment had passed.

“Did you…” Evan started.

“Did I what?”

He bit down on his lower lip, like he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to ask it. “Did you want me to walk you to your room?”

I sighed. Of course I did. I wanted it more than anything.

But I knew he couldn’t. I shook my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Evan. I think I’m just gonna go to bed.”

He nodded, real fast, and said, “All right.”

I put my card in the slot. Pushed the door open. “I’ll see you later, okay?”

I entered the building and let the door shut behind me. When I reached the other side of the entrance hall, I turned around and waved. He was still outside, still in the cold, still with the rain to contend with. He waved back, with little enthusiasm. He turned around, put his jacket over his head, and started running back down the hill.

Synopsis

He’s a young, up and coming businessman with the keys to his family’s Italian wine enterprise.

I’m a fine arts student, navigating life in the Big Apple, my pencil and sketchpad in hand.

We meet. We fall in love.

But it’s not that story.

Sometimes, by a rare gift of fate, two lives cross paths. And hey, if that happens to occur when staring at Michelangelo’s naked masterpiece, even better. We can tell our future children how a seventeen-foot tall marble guy named David brought us together.

But there’s always more to a relationship than its beginning and ever after. In life, there’s a whole lot of backstory. There are ex-fiancés and hot roommates and family members whose advice continues, even beyond the grave.

When you say you love someone, it’s never just that one person you’re saying it to. And it’s never just that one moment that sets everything in motion.

There is always more that draws you in.

Review

5-stars

I’m not even going to attempt to summarize this story for you because it is definitely a story that you have to experience for yourself.

Unlike any book I’ve read recently, Draw Me In is romance at its best. Hell, I even have a girl-crush on Julie! She was an awesome character to get to know with her humor, lack of filter and rambling thoughts. I LOVED her! Leo is amazing too. He is charming and sexy but so, so sweet and completely enamored with Julie. He is captivated by her talent, drawn to her caring side and enthralled by her view of life.

Megan Squires did an amazing job in telling Leo and Julie’s love story. Yes, that’s what is was, a true love story that had me sighing, laughing out loud and emotional invested in the lives of these two complex yet relatable characters. The author went out of her way to draw you into the story by describing into detail the setting of the scenes, by bringing to the surface each emotion felt by the characters and by allowing you to fully connect to the characters through their witty banter, honest interactions and entertaining dialogue.

Sure, Leo and Julie had chemistry but it was their connection that I enjoyed the most. It felt real, they felt real and as their connection developed and their emotions came into play it became beautiful. One of those romances that leave you sighing and grinning because it warmed your heart.

Was the outcome a bit over the top? Yes. But for me it was a wonderful few hours where I got to see two individuals find each other and what they longed for within each other. It was a story full of anticipation, hope and second chances. But most of all it was a wonderful story of learning to live in the moment and loving unconditionally.

I loved it all! The emotions, the humor and the secondary characters. Every element introduced added to the story and I wouldn’t change one thing about it. Well, maybe the cover, because for me that is not Leo. But the story was so great that I will gladly overlook that little mishap!
