Nikki Interviews The Men of Steel

I need to finish this article before my next assignment. And Abe? Well he and I aren’t really speaking at the moment. Not that I don’t want to, but I need to finish this my way, not with his help, or “guidance.”

I’m at home in Georgia after an epic fail of a first meeting between my over protective parents and a man who wants to own me. Abe didn’t demonstrate the calm cool and collective manner I knew he could. Instead, he did something I have never seen him do before. He lost control. I need to figure out what is best for me. I suppose I already know, but I need to make sure that the people I love know that I am okay and strong. I need people to know I am the same Nikki I was before that horrible night.

“Thank you for agreeing to do this.” I smile at the computer screen.

I don’t know why I’m intimidated by these men. I don’t even get intimidated by Abe, anymore. And let’s face it, Abe, can be a bit intimidating.
“Hey, Nikki,” Xavier smiles.

“I see three of you. Is Jase not taking part?”

I saw them all look at each other like they were waiting for one of them to come up with a reason he was absent. I assumed he had more important things to do than conducting an interview over Skype with someone like me. I’m not even a real journalist. The others were probably only doing it for Abe. “He’ll pop in when he’s not busy.” Cyrus nodded.

“Right,” I nodded back. “So you’re all either married or getting married. Congratulations. What our readers are going to want to know is how your respective partners tamed the Steel men. Cyrus, you wanna go first?”

“Tamed is a real shit choice of words, Nikki. Look at the screen do you see a bunch of pussy whipped men?”

I shook my head “no.”

“Bro, she’s just asking a damn question,” Xavier shoved his elbows off the desk. “Nikki, sorry about that.”

“Why are you sorry? It’s true. We aren’t tame we are taken by the woman who can handle the Steel.” Zandor laughed. “That’s the deal, Nikki. We fell in love with women who could take what we had to offer, in whatever form we chose to give. I own Bekah’s ass and she owns my heart.”

“Can I quote you on that?” I laughed.

“Hell yes you can,” he smirked.

“My wife, Tara, needed a man like me to take care of her. What I didn’t know was I needed that little Birdie to do the same for me. I will protect her with my life, give her the love she deserves forever. She will protect my heart and be anything I need her to be. That’s what love is.”
That made me smile inside.

“Irish is just as head strong and independent as they come. I never knew I needed that until I found it. She’s my best friend and hot as hell in bed. She—.”

“Bro, do you really think that Taelyn wants the press to know she’s hot in the sheets?” Zandor laughed at him.

“What? She is.” He acted like it was no big deal.

“You want every man on the shore to know she can rock it?” Cyrus asked him.

Zandor started laughing.

“Fuck you, man, I can tell them you like to tie your wife up to a damn wall.”

“That shit is off the record,” Zandor glared into the screen.

“Oh course,” I nodded.

My phone rang and I silenced my ringer. My Dad was coming home early to talk to me, like I’d requested.

I talked to the three Steel brothers for another twenty minutes before ending the rather revealing interview.

“Thank you all. I promise to leave out the less PG parts of the interview.”

They all said goodbye and I started to close the computer when I heard them.

“You think she’s going back to Abe?”

“Why the hell wouldn’t she?”

“I don’t know, but I hope the hell she does. I’m tired of his mopey ass.”

“Is this thing still on?”

And then they were gone.

Irons (The Norfolk Series #1)
by M.J. Fields

A New Adult Romance
Released August 10th 2014

I was born and bred to be the man I am today. My father and his father were both graduates from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Both went on to become helicopter pilots. Both had seen plenty of action. Both had met and caused devastation. Both men, who I respect more above all, had served and protected the United States and her people honorably for decades.

My best friend, William Cruz, who attended the academy with me, had flown beside me, had lived the same life as I had and shared the same ambitions in life, was gone now. This was not part of the plan. Will and I were supposed to have each other’s backs, support each other and never let anything supersede our bond.

I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful day in May and I was cutting class. I had done the same every year since he passed.

Jaxson Irons was only supposed to be in Pensacola for a year. But now three years later I still hadn’t heard from him. I saw a man running down the beach and I knew immediately who it was.

Jaxson didn’t respond the way I had dreamed he would. He told me we would catch up someday soon. I stood and watched until he was gone.
Thump, thump. I placed my hand on my chest as I felt my heart beat again for what felt like the first time in three years. Thump, thump. I felt the blood moving quickly through my body. Its heat once again present. Thump, thump. I looked up at the sky and let out a breath. A breath that I had been holding forever. Thump, thump.

I felt tears fall down my face as I raised my hands in the air and laughed out loud. Just then the clouds parted for the first time in forever. I saw the sun smiling down on me.

It’s been three years since Jase and Frankie (Francesca) have seen each other. Frankie still has feelings for Jase, while he does everything in his power to not ‘go there’. But Frankie is quite the feisty female and poor Jase doesn’t stand a chance. She wants Jase’s attention and she’s determined to make him see her.

It didn’t take a lot of time for Frankie to realize that she bit quite a more than she could chew when it came to Jase. A strong-minded, alpha male type, Jase is not one to play games. He has managed to curb his feelings and desires for Frankie but once he gave into her he couldn’t control them nor keep them at bay.

I was looking forward to reading this story. I was curious to see how Jase and Frankie move on from their loss and come together after William’s death. But what I thought would be a sweet romance about two individuals healing and finding peace in each other turned out to be an intense sensual ride where emotions ranged from anger to lust and frustration without never once nearing sweet.

That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy this story. MJ Fields managed to bring together various elements that kept me interested in Jase and Frankie’s story.

The first of the elements to make an impression were the emotions, followed by an intriguing plot and a sizzling romance.

Jase kept a tight hold on his emotions. Not showing emotions had been ingrained in him from a young age by his family. However, whenever he allowed himself to feel, he felt deeply. His pain and regret over his best friend’s death was clear to see and understand. His struggle to accept what he was feeling towards Frankie just made him that much more vulnerable in my eyes. He might have been a tough guy but his conflicted emotions showed how big a heart he had.

Frankie, on the other hand, was all over the place emotionally. Up, down and everywhere in between–her emotions were as messy as her life had become. I had a hard time connecting to her and her whiplash inducing thoughts didn’t help the matter one bit. Thankfully, the author added another twist to the story which helped to draw my attention away from my dislike of Frankie.

This is were the suspense element came in handy. I liked how the author went about feeding the reader bits of information while still keeping them intrigued as to how it was all related to Frankie and Jase’s relationship. I enjoyed learning a bit more about Jase’s family and all the other little details that came as a result of having Jase investigating the threats. I also enjoyed the interactions that took place with the secondary characters because of this. I especially enjoyed Shadows. He brought a bit of humor into the mix. I can’t wait to see more of him.

Needless to say the sex scenes were fantastic. I am glad to say that MJ Fields didn’t pull any punches in that regards. Jase was a sight to see when he lost control, but even hotter when he was all in control in the bedroom. *sigh* That man had it all–endurance, package and skill.

This is the first book in The Norfolk Series and a great one at that. I’m still not sold on Frankie, but I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. I also think the story ended abruptly even if a follow up book is in the works.

All in all, an intriguing sensual read.

*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.
